Replacing Car Tyre

You are supposed to use these inside grooves to check tread right ?

I always measure the inside and outside grooves in two places and then log them in a spreadsheet (as i'm sad like that). Then inside or outside is the most likely to wear (depending on suspension setup) and it also shows you if you need your wheels aligned by measuring both.

If either the left most one or right most one is less than 1.6 mm it is illegal so i don't bother measuring the middle ones as they will be deeper (unless you have your tyres way overinflated and ballooning out in the middle!)

It's normal for the front nearside to wear down slightly quicker than the rest of the tyres right? ( in the UK anyway )

Because we go clockwise round roundabouts? If by “slightly” you mean “not measurably” then that’s probably right.

Have you had the wheels tracked?  One front tyre wearing quicker than the other suggest a potential tracking issue.

Personally i take tyres down to around 2mm.   Just replaced the rears on my car at around that.  I was getting a little jitteriness through the rear of the car if i was hitting any surface water.  They're a very broad tyre on the rear of mine and i suspect the lack of decent thread wasnt allowing water to disperse easily so feeling a lot happier with a new set on it now.

If the photo posted earlier is of the OP's actual tyre then I'd query the tracking/alignment settings - one edge seems to be wearing significantly more quickly than the other.

While within legal limits, 2mm is too low. Emergency braking in the wet is sure to increase your stopping distance. What would another 1mm cost you ? not much relative to your and others lives.

No that tyre is a picture off Google.

The  " Arm Pin / Bush " was worn down, which I then replaced about a month or two .
Front Nearside is 5.1mm and the Front Offside is 5.5mm

Personally i read the road ahead and drive appropriately for the weather conditions rather than rely on sudden reactive emergency braking to get me out of trouble.  A good brand - not chinese ditch finders or spuriously sourced part worns - also pays dividends.

I've had 30+ years accident free, so dont think me following the above regime and replacing the tyres within their legal limits should be a cause for your internet hand wringing.
