Hi. Just wondering if it's time to replace one of my tyres ?
Front nearside is 3.7mm and the rest of the car is 5mm and above.

Noticed slight wheelspin coming out of a  very wet junction today on the passenger side and wondering whether to play it safe and get that tyre replaced ?

Thanks

Coming into winter then yes you may consider a change. Personally, I don't allow mine to get below 3mm, and I also replace in pairs. Probably not MSE, but you can't put a price on safety.

Ultimately only you can decide whether it's worth it or not, if you don't make many journeys then you may feel you could leave it for a while longer.

No I would swap the front wheels side to side (presuming they are not a handed design).

Why would you swap the front wheels side to side?  Surely they are both subject to the same forces?

Thanks for the information. I do lots of driving so I'll get it replaced. After doing some research it's probably best to replace both the front ones. As it stands.
    Front offside is 5mm
    Front nearside is 3.7mm
    Rear offside is 6mm
    Rear nearside is 6mm

If the tyres are the same size all round then it's preferable to rotate the tyres and put the new ones on the back.

The inside tyre tends to slip first, so he is suggesting putting more tread on the inside, as starting off on an island you turn left. Also it seems to be wearing faster which would be consistent with more left turns than right.

No way would I be replacing a tyre with 5mm left, prob not at 3mm either…I have just replaced one front one at 2mm , ( I was getting a bit of wheel spin) the other side has about 5 mm left .. no wheel spin now .

no need to replace tyres in pairs

Wow your local tyre fitter must love you, I run them down as close the limit as possible and I've got a rear wheel drive car.
If/when you do come to change them look online at Asda Tyres (they use tyre fitting outlets) and you will see info on wet grip, noise and fuel economy. Pick some with a good wet grip rating. You can find this info on Halfords, Kwik-Fit etc
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.

I certainly wouldn't be wasting money replacing a tyre that's still got plenty of tread on it.  The legal limit is 1.6mm, but that's pushing it.  I would be happy to drive around on anything above 2mm.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Went to the tyre place and they said there's plenty of tread left on all of the tyres and they don't need replacing   :D
