I'm assuming most broadband charges include landline standing charge, when landline charge were separated out used to be 19.99, that makes the broadband only charges around £10 a month. So my question is does anyone provides just the broadband service?

  • Unless you have FTTP, then you will need a line to provide your broadband service. Some ISPs, like AAISP, offer ‘wires only’ for £10 per month plus the cost of the broadband service.  With this offer you cannot use the line for telephone calls.

You are a victim of misleading advertising if you think that if  line rental is £20 and broadband is £10 ( when the bill is £30/month) it must follow that if broadband is standalone ( no line rental ) then it will be £10/month…..if an ISP provided broadband for £30 and claimed it was line rental £29.99 and broadband 0.1p , do you think you would  be able to get 1p broadband if line rental was removed ?
ISP’s did whatever they could to disguise the broadband element charge , Openreach wholesale line rental at the time was around £7/month ( that’s what the ISP was charged by Openreach) but the ISP  would arbitrarily say line rental £20 , giving them a £13 margin to offset claiming to sell broadband for £10 ( or whatever )
For the last few years , companies have had to show a price for broadband including LR because you couldn’t have broadband without it…the difference is now many providers will sell broadband without telephony ( line rental and telephony are not the same thing ) , those that do offer standalone BB typically offer a discount of £2 to £5 a month ( not £20 )  compared to telephony with broadband…., there is still a line delivering broadband and it needs to be paid for, so  line rental is still there , even if it’s not shown as a separate item

    Yep, SOGEA
  • Unless there is a way of delivering broadband via thin air then you'll still have to pay line rental (yes line rental not a landline charge)

But that's not without the landline, it's without the voice service.

It may or not be marginally cheaper than one with voice service, but it's not really what people mean when they say "without the landline" as they expect the line rental charges to be removed, forgetting that as others have said, you still need the physical cable to provide the broadband service and the upkeep and maintenance of this is the same whether there's a voice service going down it or not.

I'm not sure if this comment is sarcasm but it's definetly possible to deliver broadband via radio waves and that's how mobile phones work.

As the question was re landlines that's the route answered .
But i believe VM have a no landline /rental   broadband product , you would need to check and see of its cheaper or not .
Yes 4g etc via a mobile dongle has no landline / rental charges as it has no physical line . Worth looking at and pricing up as many posts on here re mobile BB .

My question is that most providers make reference to providing broad band without landline, including BT, my current BB provider. Just Google it. But the links are all unsupported or redirect  you to convention contracts including line rental/charge. I had to wonder whether this type of contract does, or does not exist. None of the responses have made any references to these, so I'll have to assume nobody here knows about these, so I'll have to ring the providers individually to find the answers to my question
