Dividend vs growth stocks?

  • I don't worry about dividend vs growth as I just buy broadly based cap weighted indexes. I suppose I'll end up biased towards large caps and so maybe also towards dividends, but I just reinvest and take a Total Return approach. KISS!

To be fair to the equity income category, Woodford was investing in things that clearly did not fall into that category.
Woodford finally left Perpertual in 2014 to start his own fund management business. That's when matters started going wrong.
Woodford needed the discipline of a tight team behind him.   It kept him in check.  When the systems and controls were removed.... well we can see what happened.

I wonder how he hoodwinked the board in place at the time if indeed that was the case.

He didn't really hoodwink anyone. The complete list of holdings was there for everyone to see, including all of the startup and unlisted risky stuff. Very easy to see the problem and avoid the fund. I have no idea why the big institutions and pension funds decided it was worth the risk.

The smaller Patient Capital trust was the right place to hold this stuff but wasn't given chance when the main fund collapsed.

Investors need to spend more time focussing on the investments themselves and ignore wider noise. Not least the personality.   Bill Gates is yet another fallen star it appears. People make great actors.

Not a recommendation but I've just listened to this podcast. Plenty out there of course but it's not a fund of the usual big guns paying high dividends. Aims for growth and dividend.
