Advice needed ASAP plz
Hi there everyone, I am 4 weeks away from my 12 month DRO period ending (can’t believe how fast it’s gone) anyway I am a bit worried as a job has come up at a local school only doing 12 hours a week and I’d really like to take it as that opportunity isn’t likely to arise again, and it’s perfect for me, my only worry is that they would have to contact hmrc as I have lost my P45 from 4 years ago but the hmrc were one of my creditors and a huge amount, would they tell the OR!? I’m so close to the 12 month date but do I risk it? I prob wouldn’t even be paid until after that date anyway but I’m stuck as what to do.
Any advice would be great!!!

Could you not arrange to start the job in 4 weeks time, when your DRO is completed?

Hi thanks for your reply, the interview is later today but I’ve been panicking so I’ve sent him an email to say I can’t start until new year and wouldn’t want to waste their time if they needed an immediate start, my DRO ends on 17th Dec. After everything I went through I don’t want it provoked. Hopefully he will reply so I know one way or another!0

I did get a reply and it’s a new year start which is amazing however the other worry is, they will want to do their checks etc so if they contact hmrc for my p45 details before the 12 months is up will it affect my DRO even though the job won’t begin until jan!?0

Will appreciate any advice/ reassurance! I cannot lose my 12 months and it took me a lot anxiety to get the ball rolling and I’m so pleased I’m nearly there and I just don’t want anything to go wrong!!!! It’s deffo a new year start though as he did say that!0

The employers would ask you fill in a 'new starters' form with your details. The payroll department would have to contact HMRC to get the tax code from you but I beleive this is all automated now so it wouldn't involve anyone in payroll actually talking to anyone in HMRC (and even if they did I would think that it would be a data protection breach if they started sharing irrelevant info with each other). As the job is in a school then you may well have to get a DBS check done - I'm not an expert but I think that is really about whether you have a criminal record or not rather than whether you have ever been declared bankrupt.1

Thanks for your reply! It has made me feel better. I think my main worry was that if HMRC see that I have a new employer it would provoke my DRO as they are creditors for tax credits but I’m thinking as long as the actual job starts in January and the DRO would have completed then I should be ok!??As for a dbs check that’s to check if I have any criminal convictions etc which I will pass fine so not worried about that. Also if I had to do training before my DRO has ended would that provoke it even though I wouldn’t start the role until January!?Sorry for all the questions I’m getting nervous as I don’t want to fluff anything up!!!!0

A New Year start is fantastic! There's nothing to worry about there then re the DRO.Has your prospective employer spoken about training before the job starts? I would have thought this was unlikely in a school. Any training would need to be paid which would mean you would have to be on the payroll which couldn't happen before your agreed contracted start date.0

As above your P45 is redundant as it falls in a different tax year, you will be given a P46 (New Employee Starter Form) & you will tick box A.0
