BT won't release my phone line to sky

I am in a new build estate (been here 3 years) and my broadband is with BT.  I am trying to move my broadband and phone to Sky.  Sky have come back and said they can't do it as BT won't release the line to them.  Are BT able to do this and has anyone got any tips on what I can do?  I am paying so much more with BT.  Thanks

No such thing as an exclusive period where it’s BT or nothing ( although many still believe it to be the case it’s simply not true )
If Sky are failing to give you what you want , it’s probably their ineptitude.

Post the return from this wholesale checker, if you are in a new build , it could be a FTTP only address ( where copper pairs were never provided just full fibre ) .
Sky do now offer FTTP , but may not want to port a BT DV number , ( if that is how your BT phone service is delivered ) , does your current phone plug into a master socket or is it plugged into the BT router , if it’s in the router phone socket it’s ‘ BT Digital Voice’.
If the phone number number is so important and you want to use Sky , port the number to a VoIP provider, get Sky FTTP  ( with or without a phone service ) and access the wanted number via the broadband connection , assuming you are FTTP.

Nope, that's an urban myth.  Please don't perpetuate it.

Is the Persimmon/fibrenest still a thing - that might be the source of some of the confusion/myths, even though not BT?

It is, but since BT was mentioned as the supplier in the opening post, it can't be the Persimmon / fibrenest stitch up in this case.
