Our children are in their 30s and 40s.

(one of the children has a diagnoses of autism if that makes any difference)

Recommendation perhaps. Family law solicitors specialise as such.

What do they specialise in that would make my partner choose a family solicitor over a different type of solicitor?
  • The cost. Another town might be cheaper.

Maybe I should have mentioned my partner wants a divorce?

Might depend what they want the solicitor's advice on.

The solicitor we used most recently (to do the conveyancing on my late mother's house) is also a friend - I used to see him on the train in the mornings and get a quick progress report. We've also used them for our wills.

If I wanted advice on divorce, I'd go elsewhere, possibly far enough away that I wouldn't bump into anyone I knew on my visits.

But there's one way to find out - ASK THEM!

  • What is the solicitor for, you've mentioned children but have given no context.
In terms of the reasons why, it could be a multitude of reasons - recommendations from others, used them before, close to work (if signatures etc are needed) etc etc

Is that what a FAMILY solicitor is for, as our child is in the mental health system?
