Crappy? It's lasted almost 7 years and it's been used a LOT.grumpycrab said:
I agree, crappy CORSAIR power supply. Ideally swap with a spare to test the theory - know anybody with a spare? Is the original PC builder still around (and local?).GDB2222 said:Might this be the power supply?
Don't know anyone with a spare. Builder is still around bout would need to post to them as one of the major pc builders. I'll have a look on youtube to see how you change one. If I can't tackle it I think I'll look for someone local to look at it.
Thank you.0 -
Nope I couldn't lol but thanks for your reply.prowla said:You could try unplugging internal drives, removing the graphics board (if it's got inbuilt graphics to fall back to), etc. and seeing if it starts up as far as the BIOS.1 -
Thanks for your reply, but it's not something I feel confident doing.Cisco001 said:Remove graphic card and use on road vga to eliminate one factor.
Also, remove cpu cooler, clean thermal paste and re-apply.0 -

Even dust can kill a decvent PSU.(Always use the tier list there is no company that does not produce both bad and good PSUs).1 -
Ok thanks for that.Carrot007 said:grumpycrab said:

Hi , now you can see why I asked for details , I am not the best for hardware diagnostics on a good day, but I am a little surprised no on has suggested trying booting from a USB stick... just saying and everyone can feel free to ignore me/correct me .

Given your admitted lack of competence it would probably be best to get a local repair.Could be something quite minor, even repkacing the piwer supply is minor providing it has not damaged any other component.A fix should be well within the competence of a good repairer. However try to find a recommended on rather than a bodger or cowboy know it all!Post where you live in general terms and someone on here might just be able to advise.0

That may just be your issue (says the man with a 10yr oldish OCZ Xtream!!)LippyDoodle said:Crappy? It's lasted almost 7 years and it's been used a LOT.

Nice case btw, just what I have!!
I'm writing a book on plagiarism. It wasn't my idea.0 -
I've no particular expertise here, so this is just a guess. Do any of the fans have some sort of airflow detector? I'm thinking maybe dust has built up around the fans. Can you tell where the click noise is coming from? I'd be having a good look and listen around the fans area as the thing cycles on and off.0

"Click" then power down would also lead me to check the power supply first.
If it were me, I'd disconnect everything, hard drive(s) etc from the motherboard, you don't even need the monitor plugged in, leave only the power supply connected, turn on and see if it runs and stays on.
If the same result then I'd investigate the power supply.Move along, nothing to see.0
