Gas AGA fan noise

I have been looking at a house with a gas AGA but find the noise of the venting(?) fan a problem.
This may seem stupid (I know!) but my wife says we could always replace it with an electric AGA. However I would think an electric one would also have some sort of fan.noise.
Any comments welcome. (I know it would cost loads but the house is very nice}

    TBH I'd put up with the fan noise. Not only would it be pretty expensive to replace but an electric AGA could cost you 3-4 times as much to run as a gas one for the same amount of heat. (there are several threads on the subject of the cost of running an electric AGA)

    Perhaps the fan needs servicing or you might be a bit oversensitive to the noise it makes(no crtiticsim intended, but as noise is fairly subjective, some people are more irritated by noise than others)

    AGA fans do need replacing periodically.  They get noisier as they get older and the bearings wear out.  Although sometimes it is down to dust and a periodic clean and grease can solve it.  I have a 30amp electric AGA and you have fans on those as well.   They stopped making it recently and replaced it with what is effectively a conventional oven with an AGA frontage.

    It should sound like a quiet fan noise but if it is humming, then it needs servicing.

  • Thanks for the replies. Is it a large job to replace the fan on a 2002(?) Gas AGA?

    No. Although I have never done it myself.  It gets looked at during the service and it appears very accessible.
