New gas connection

Recently purchased a property with no gas central heating, it’s never had a gas supply so no gas meter. There is a live gas line on the property so just need an energy company to fit meter and supply gas. Struggling to find one. It’s got to be one of the big 6. British Gas can’t answer phone cos it’s cuts off, eon can’t do new connections, struggling to get hold of the others. Has anyone had a new gas connection lately and could you recommend a supplier or how to go about it? Don’t think I can handle a coal fire much longer!

Oh my god - I was just going to write *exactly* the same post.
*no one* is able to install a meter - what are we expected to do this winter?
To save you time, I've tried:
British Gas
Ecotricity
E.ON
EDF
Octopus
SSE
and some independent installers who are also not installing.
I've written to my MP and a national newspaper as this is appalling and extremely worrying.
Even if we can get it installed, it looks as though a lot of suppliers are refusing to let you take your account to a new address without a massive hike in tarriff....
You can buy meters online, I'm going to start ringing around to find a certified gas engineer who might be able to install it?!1 -
Try Shell. There's another thread from about a month or so ago with somebody having similar problems.0

@Verdigris - could you find the link? I can't find it0

I've gone back 40 pages, to the end of September. Haven't found it but I remember suggesting Shell and I'm fairly certain the poster got a result.

The OP in that thread did get set up with Shell Energy.0 -
That's it. Well done! I must have missed it as I scrolled back.

Thanks @Logen - that's an interesting thread - I'll give Shell a try tomorrow, although that thread's a coupla months old now, so not feeling particularly confident.
As the thread says - we'll be living by coal and candlelight.....appalling situation1 -
Update: No luck with Shell0

Have you tried OVO? They seem as though they are still keen to increase their market share so might be willing to take on a new customer. Maybe they'll agree to fit one if you agree to go onto a fixed rate tariff with them, rather than the SVR. Good luck.MFW since March 2019Mortgage-free 30th June 2023
