MrsBrooks13 said:I might have missed it in the previous posts but you may be able to claim Carers Allowance if DH is awarded PIP. It’s £67.60 per week and is not income or savings related. It can be backdated by 3 months too if eligible.1

If the OP is working full-time, she'll be over the income limits for Carers Allowance, but it's worth bearing in mind for the future.Signature removed for peace of mind1

Opp, have you got POA think about getting it sooner with your DH's consent rather than later when it may be more difficult. Plus are your banks, savings, regular bills etc. in yours or joint names? If not do it as you will be dealing with them in future.1

Thanks POA is underway and consultant is supportive of this. Bills have always been in my name as DH doesn’t do anything online and problems have probably been there longer than I’d care to admit so I just did everything. Thanks for the thought. A few years ago I got DH to get internet banking which meant I could move money about to save him going to the bank and worrying about how much money he had. I realised as time went on this needed to be formalised and that’s what POA hopefully does. Hopinging to get POA sent away for registration this week. I believe it is taking a while just now.
i called council about exemption for council tax. They said as long as consultant had signed it to send it in stating I will send esa award letter when I get it. I wrote on form the date esa was appplied for...now 17 weeks ago.
ive also looked into appointee for benefits so thanks for suggestion. I’ve called about pip as didn’t receive form and they said there was an issue with DH name?!? Issue now sorted but still not received form. It will be 2 weeks on monday since it was requested now.
consultant visiting house in two weeks hope to have formal diagnosis then and be able to move on from organising to making memories with kids and DH. Thanks all0 -
I’m sure you already know, but I had to register POA with each bank as well. (Used to be by both of us going in with Id and signing at the bank).1

Yes. I’m not sure if I need to do this elsewhere? GP and would this mean no need to wait for appointee interview for DWP? Thanks0

ThanksPOA is not for benefit purposes, so you'll still need to become his appointee. If you've started the process to become his appointee the PIP form should not be sent out until it's completed, if they send it out then it shouldn't be.Once the appointee has been set up the form will then be sent in your name, which will mean you will be responsible for answering all questions if an assessment is needed.1

Also finding this forum useful my husband has been diagnosed at 55 last month, awaiting more tests for exactly how he is affected but he can’t work. We are getting ESA but I didn’t know you could get pip as well1

Good to hear from you. It’s been a very steep learning curve. DH is still on assessment rate for esa and I’m worried I’ve not given enough information. I phoned about pip over two weeks ago but still haven’t received form. Such a lot to take in and organise. It’s like another full time job. Take care.0
