I d
id an
online order with Iceland which I received last night whilst packing away shopping noticed this mouldy pear, had already but wrapping in bin, put away rest of shopping other wrappers in bin etc and cooked dinner using Iceland products from my order. Later felt I wanted to report my issue on Iceland website and got wrapped out of bin as it asked for bare code to which I found my pears where out of date, I had a little panic and throw all the unwrapped food away and checked the dates on all my shopping none which where out of date but am not sure about the unwrapped products. I have contacted Iceland and their being very flippant about it all and refunded me £1.65 cost of pears and also a £5 off when I spend £40 online which I said I will never do again and if I do shop with them it will be in store only, I then was told we’ll load a £10 good will voucher onto a card for you to use in store, I told them I would think about it and am getting a call back from the manager sometime this week with my answer. I don’t feel £10 is just when my shopping was £152 and iv throw at least £30 away what rights do I have or am I being over the top

Yes, you are being over the top. Why did you throw away 'at least £30 of food away' when one prepacked pear was off? It was wrapped up so it didn't touch anything else. They refunded the pear and gave you £5. To want more is over the topLove living in a village in the country side15 -
It's not out of date. 'Display until' is stock control info.
'Use by' & 'best before' are the ones that are legislated for.4 -

Ignore dates on fruit & veg, use your nose and eyes. Throwing the lot away is a gross overreaction, perishable items perish, and they do not necessarily do so at the rate the supply chain expects.7

Yep over the top, it happens occasionally.
Refund and £10 extra for £1.65 of pears seems very fair with a quick response and apology. You throwing away good food as you just weren't sure isn't really Iceland's problem and they may also think you are trying it on as I probably wouldn't say that's typical behaviour.2 -
If it said 'eat before' you might have an argument... but it doesn't. 'Best before' doesn't count. You've been reimbursed... time to move on.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3664

Clearly they don't - as they are in the habit of unwrapping food without checking the dates and so used to having food around with no idea of the date. Overthinking gone peculiar here.
