Anyone used this granite worktop company?

Don't let it go. By doing that you just allow them to carry on in this manner.
It's actually what they plan on happening, fob people off and eventually they give up.
Send them a letter, recorded delivery giving them 7 days to make an appointment to repair the problems (the appointment doesn't have to be in 7 days, but setting a date for it does).
If they fail to do this then take it further.0 -
Hi Alan have done what you suggested and sent a recorded letter today, I will keep you posted on the out come. Do you think I could also claim from the credit card company with section 75 as martin advices or wait to see what happens? To be truthful I don't think remedial work is the answer because there is too much wrong, I feel it should be removed and refitted again with a more reputable company,if I manage to recuperate my money I will do my home work first, won't get caught out again! but I think I've got a battle on my hands. thanks Lina0

It's worth a phone call to the card company, one of the first things they'll ask is have you asked the company to come and put it right?
Hence the advice above, you have to give the business a reasonable opportunity to correct it themselves (correcting is everything up to and including replacement), if they then fail to do that your case against them is all the more stronger.
A very easy defense for the company is "We weren't given the opportunity to put it right", remove that possibility altogether.
I would Phone the CC company and ask them what the process is for them, but explain the situation to date. They may well say, if the company fail to act then contact them or they may open a case pending results of your letter.
Also worth a chat with Trading Standards but I have to say I find them quite hit and miss, almost depends on the person you get how effective they are.0 -
I've seen a few people on this site say they used
http://www.diapol.co.uk/default.asp
and found them to be very good. Maybe try a search on the forum for related posts.
They were the only online company I could find that didn't ask for a very substantial deposit
or payment in full until the work was completed.0 -

Hi Alan recieved email yesturday from mistermarble they have given me a date for remedial work to take place from september 20th, I will be on holiday until 24th, do you think thats rather a long way away? I wanted to discuss remedial work before it took place theres quite a few thing I'm not happy with and also pieces to replace. Can a cutout for a undermount sink be polished after it has been fitted, I don't think so! thanks Lina
You need to arrange a mutually acceptable time to organise the remedial work.
I'm assuming the installation is to a standard that the kitchen is usable, so it's not any particular inconvenience or you've been left with an unsafe fit then I'd say September isn't unreasonable, however I would expect a site meeting before hand to discuss the requirements and come to an arrangement of what will be undertaken.
No manufacturing, polishing or cutting should really take place on anything in situ unless it is a minor remedial repair.
Polishing of an under mount basin should really be undertaken with a water fed polishing machine, not something that can be done in situ at all.0 -
Hi,
We have received this response from Universal Granite:
"As the customer has stated this was 2 years ago, I just wish you had contacted us 2 years ago as we do take any complaint and problem serious as we have nothing but the customer's best interest in mind and we do pride our selves on service, every customer gets a sign off sheet that clearly states please inspect the granite and installation prior to the fitters leaving as no customer would pay for a product that they are not happy with, we still go back and sort out any issues at our cost and have never charged anyone for a remedial that is our fault no matter how many times we have to go back.
What is a little bit harsh is the fact that some people expect us to carry out all sorts of works IE plumbing electrics kitchen fitting ECT, if they had to sort it out it would cost them, even when we cover all of this many times before the installation.
Even after 2 years Louise we would be more than happy to rectify these "chips" if you want us to, what is more than likely is that the chips are more like pits and naturally part of the texture of the material but we will do almost anything to keep the customer happy.
Like any company we will try our best to make sure the customer gets a good job and value for money, this is the first time i have had to defend our company on this site and hope its the last, we have carried out thousands of projects and to say that every one has gone perfect would be an out and out lie, some projects can go belly up but we would always try our best to put things right as a growing company does not make the habit of upsetting customers as we rely on word of mouth for a lot of our work.
Please accept my apologies Louise for any rudeness that our installation team would have directed at you if they did, if you would have reported this to us please be assured that the fitter would have been well and truly reprimanded but our installation teams who have been with us from the start are nothing short of very well mannered lads.
if the customer would like me to rectify this then they can email at universal.granite@yahoo.co.uk
Kind regards Kevin Universal Granite."0 -

Yes, I had my worktops fitted 3 days ago. We went with Universal Granite as they said that cheaper local rivals wouldn't do a good job without templating and they would make a mess. We agreed to pay 50% on the day and 50% when the work was inspected to our satisfaction.
The templater was excellent and we were full of confidence for the fitting.
Unfortunately the fitters did a bad job and did not install the worktops level- leaving a 9.5. I queried it and they said it was because our end panel was not level. A couple of hours later I noticed that the end panel was also wonky and damaged.
When my husband returned he noticed that the end panel had been shifted off the packers we had installed in order to make the worktop level, and that the end panel had been unscrewed from it's bracket.
We called immediately the following morning and arranged for someone to take a look yesterday evening. My husband rearranged his work to be in at the scheduled time. They didn't show up , or call to say why they were not coming.
We have no hob, oven or sink installed yet as a result.
We have sent them a number of photographs to show them the quality of the workmanship, which I am happy to post here if anyone wishes to see them. We need the work rectifying by tomorrow, and I will re-post then to let you all know if the neccessary rectifications are completed.0
