Anyone used this granite worktop company?

  • Hi I bought my granite worktops and matching tiles from Universal Granite about 2 years ago they were excellent quality the only thing I would advise would be to check the worktops very carefully as I discovered a couple of chips once it was fitted and I had paid my money - they did return to try and fill the chips but this was basically coloured glue which wore off after a couple days - I am sure they would have returned to repair it again but I couldnt be bothered with the mess! Also they didnt mention at the time that they wouldnt remove the sink or hob from the temporary worktop so I had to call on someone last minute to do this before they disappeared and then get someone to fit these back in afterwards. And lastly one of the men who fitted the worktop was EXTREMELY ignorant and rude - I apprecaite these worktops are cheaper than others but they are still expensive and manners cost nothing - another company who I also bought granite tiles from for my conservatory (that perfectly matched the leftover ones from my kitchen) was granite marble and limestone.com they were excellent to deal with and excellent (if not better) or price and the same quality as universal granite

    hope this helps!

My son and I have nothing but good words to say about the service he received from Diapol. They even came and repaired a chip in the edge of the worktop free of charge.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • Hi all,

Has anyone recently used the following companies for granite supply and insallation:
    Universal Granite
    Mister Marble

    If so, any reviews/advice welcomed.

    Located in Merseyside area.

    Many Thanks
  • I have also contacted both companies in the past couple of days and after some reviews - any help would be gratefully received.

With any granite installation the single most important thing to do is view the stone you are buying, not small samples but the stone itself that will be fitted in your kitchen, it's natural and changes from batch to batch.

In that respect a local firm will often be more suitable.

received email from mistermarble saying if I do not give them permission to remedial work I must seek legal advice, I do not wish them to do any further work, have I the right to refuse and claim a full refund I am informing my credit card company under section 75 any advice would be appriciated many thanks Lina

You must give them the opportunity to correct the issues before you start legal action. If you refuse then it jeopardises further action that you may wish to take.

If, once they've had a second go, it's still not acceptable you are in a much stronger position to take this further.
  • Sorry to hear you've had problems but thanks for sharing. I got about 7 quotes yesterday and theirs wasn't significantly cheaper than anywhere else.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

There is a lowest common denominator to which all pricing falls after periods of financial difficulty. This lowest point is cost of material + enough profit to keep the business running.

We're there now, granite has and will never be cheaper than it currently is, in fact it's going to start increasing in the near future.

If you were thinking of going this route now's the best time to do it. I've never seen fits as cheap as I regularly see now.

Hi Alan I have taken your good advice and given mr marble a second chance to put things right , that was monday, my husband has rang them twice but with no joy, the receptionist is not constant with what she says, one minute he's in a meeting the next he's away, are they trying to fob me off? so eventually I get fedup with the whole idea and forget all about it. I must say I've learnt my lesson, it looks like I will have to have the granite replaced by someone else they say buy cheap pay twice. Many thanks anyway for your good advice Lina
