Neighbour has built porch roof encroaching on my property

From the info given the neighbour takes a slovenly approach to things. Given an inch and they take a mile.grandadgolfer said:So its about 1.5 inches over the boundary....if you get on with your neighbour forget about it, on the other hand if you've never liked them crack onNo man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
Has the new porch had flashing added since the photo was taken? Otherwise, it’s pretty pointless anyway. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?2

I guess an EA would describe it as "Arts and crafts style".
Forgetting to include the "Primary School" part.

I agree that the whole thing looks awful, and possibly you can interest someone from the council on that basis. However, sawing off a couple of centimetres that crossed the boundary won’t make any difference to the looks, really. It’ll continue to look awful. Possibly worse!solentsusie said:
Planning may not be an issue but our council has policies on residential design which is expected to befit the area/property. This does not.GDB2222 said:Agreed. This isn’t going to last very long.Planning is not an issue unless you are in a conservation area.If the neighbour refuses to move the overlapping part of the porch, you have three choices
Get a solicitor involved
Shin up a ladder with a saw and cut it back yourself
Forget about it. As land invasions go, it’s pretty minimal.
Bear in mind that you probably need to declare this dispute if you come to sell your house.
Solicitor is last resort, they just want to make money.
It might seem 'pretty minimal' from your perspective, but when you look at the hideous roof as a whole picture and the front of the houses from across the street it is very clear their awful roof overhangs mine.
More than happy to declare it as a dispute, the house has been in my family for generations so when my kids inherit it that will be their problem not mine.
I'm more annoyed that their 'builder' took absolutely no notice. No idea why he has left that bit of wood hanging out the end either, he should of planned it so that it did not show, not cut the horrid plastic around it. What was he thinking?
I think you need to think about what you are trying to achieve here.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?2 -
I agree that the overhang is absolutely minimal, but understand the OP's frustration when the issue was raised on numerous occasions during construction. The actual roof construction is absolutely terrible and will probably fall down before any legal resolution could be reached.

awful construction with wrong material without thought or planning by the "builder" Completed in 3 DAYS ???!!! . I would also be p1ssed 0ff ; they could cut back the roof to the line but it would have been better to hang the gallows tight to their arch in the first place . thought and a bit of planning would have solved that . esp since you pointed it out . stand your ground and get it sorted

With the angle of the roof there won't a good downpour send water down your house wall as it's clearly on your side? They should have cut the end of that corrugation so the end was curling upwards. You could take the laid back approach and with a smile say 'when the water comes down my wall I'll be sending you the bill for repairs'May sound odd but it was the only thing that worked with my neighbour of 40yrs when ivy was getting into my gutters and paintwork. I'd tried being straight and caring as she was old, I'd tried explaining about it affecting her house. I tried forceful. But within 5 mins of smiling and saying I'd be sending my bill she'd cut it off at the roots.Sometimes you need to thing sideways.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

And the screws holding on the plastic sheeting should be on the peaks and not the troughs2

Shorter screws were probably cheaper.
