Got talking to a Scottish Power rep yesterday, wish I hadn't but there you go, we peaked his interest.
Not intending to sign up with them just listening to the potential BS that was being told us. Two things cropped up in the conversation....
1) he told us, yes you can choose us to supply your energy right now even though you are a defunct customer of Igloo and Eon.Next are currently taking your account over, true or false?
2) He had our usage data on his device (we gave him our postcode and house number) nothing else.
Can he see what we actually use per annum from tapping in some basic info as above?

I never fall for any sales spiel until I've done my searches on companies, customer service prices etc. The bottom line was sign up now to get an unrepeatable deal lower than our internet price if you go there later.

Scottish Power, are they any good,to be trusted or bad news?

Incidentally I've had my sign up/account details from Eon.Next today via email. Another two weeks and I'll get my first bill in nearly two months since Igloo went under.

Scottish Power customer service has not got the greatest reputation.

Are you sure this wasn't a scammer? There was another thread, a week or so ago, in a similar vein to yours.

He didn't knock on the door, don't usually answer or just send them packing if so
No he was in a shopping centre, had the usual banner up with a table set up type thing, had a mate pulling people over too.
I don't usually engage with these sort until I said sorry we are in limbo with our energy so no can do. He says yes you can switch if you want which I thought wasn't the best plan of action for us right now as being ex Igloo.

I can't imagine they have any better deals to offer than anyone else, at the moment. I think you'd be safer paying the cap price from your SoLR, which is fixed until the next revision in April, and look again then.
  • Anything else other than going on to the standard variable price capped tariff will cost you dearly.
Never trust a salesman whether it be energy , electrical retailer or car salesman.
All they are interested in is making money for themselves.

    1) You could have avoided having E.On as SoLR but only if you had acted very quickly (as I did when I successfully switched from Symbio to British Gas, avoiding becoming an E.On SoLR customer).  It's probably too late now; you could switch to Scottish Power but only by leaving E.On, and it would probably be far more expensive than the capped E.On tariff that you would have been on.
    2) Yes, it's possible for energy companies to see your past consumption.
Scottish Power have a poor reputation judging by the posts on the MSE forum and the ratings given by Which? and Citizens Advice.

Are you sure?  I'd have thought that this would contravene various data protection laws.  Your usage data should be between you and your supplier, if they want to share your personal details with someone else they would require your permission.
I've found this when seeking quotations.

Enter your postcode and house number here and it will show your energy supplier and annual usage.

You don't even need to click through to the following page - if your usage is not shown here just click the Edit link next to your energy supplier and all will be revealed!

We saw this Scottish Power outfit yesterday, I'm guessing it was all a load of bluff from him.
I mean on the press of a button his immediate reaction (too quickly) was, wow you are a low user, we can certainly do a better price than Eon.Next. Then when asked by me, what is my tariff then on Eon.Next he searched and just said it's a variable tariff but couldn't find it. When I moved closer to his screen he pulled it away from me.
At that point (even before really) I thought utter BS, we eventually walked away.
As I said earlier in this thread we've only just been told our tariff today from Eon themselves, it's their Next Flex tariff and states the prices, lower if you pay DD.
Sitting tight and waiting for further developments like a first bill.🙄 All good fun, not.😵

Had a bad experience with Scottish Power when a rogue representative persuaded me to switch based on a totally ficticious tariff.
When I found out and complained SP said there had been an error and switched me back to my previous supplier. Lesson learned.
