My wife suffers from quite poor sight and would like an occasional laptop to use which has the brightest screen possible and able to increase text size as and when
She wanted a tablet initially so she could sit in bed but the screen brightness is very poor on them ( unless you can advise otherwise )
..so smallish used budget laptop/tablet ( just for browsing and maybe word/excel ) with bright clear screen
Thanks

Every laptop I have ever owned was able to increase and decrease brightness and text size.
For example. on my current HP Pavilion laptop, CTRL and + increases and CTRL and - decreases the text size in my Chrome browser.
In Word you can alter the text size to make the characters bigger or smaller. I don't use Excel but I am sure the same applies.
I can adjust the brightness in Settings - Display Settings.
Maybe you need to visit a shop and try out a few more tablets and see if you can find one that is bright enough for your wife.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
Presumably you have checked for the reasons behind poor sight and potential corrections.

The OP may mean a laptop that has good screen with a 300nit rating or higher .
I have a 13.3in with i5 and 128ssd with a 300nit screen running windows 10 it looks like a macbookair as the lid is alloy.
(I would sell it if the price was right .)

Tablet may still be a good option. My tab s7 plus is currently blinding me at near min brightness. Oled screen. May be some on ebay at a good price, although that can be a relative term.0

It's going to be difficult buying a second hand laptop because the manufacturers offer variations and revisions of the same laptop model/series with different panels. When i bought my laptop new, I had a choice of three different panels.
If you look to buy a second hand Dell laptop, one thing you can do is ask the seller for the service tag and type it into https://dell.com/support. Then under quick links click 'View product specs' to find out what kind of panel the laptop was built with.A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?0 -
Thanks for the comments. She has inherited poor sight unfortunately. She needs to make the text bigger which is fine but a lot of tablets and laptops have low NITS value as mentioned
I'll take a look online at the S70 -

(I sent a pm to the op)
I honestly think many people dont relise or care about a decent screen and the brands know this nit rating is not really known or can be hidden in specs .
You certainly wont see currys stating nit ratings on each laptop in store and even online in general its not always stated
Once you have used a real good screen you can still use a lesser screen of course which I do on my older acer i7 but you really miss having a good screen with a higher nit rating.
Long term its better for your eyes I believe but most people buy on price and just make do .0 -

I don't think staring at a bright source is "better for your eyes". Higher nits/cd m2 is better for outdoor viewing or in brightly lit rooms.
Of course if the OP needs a bright screen, then that it what they need; but it doesn't mean that it is better for your eyes. I keep my screen mostly on the lowest setting, as I don't want to be staring at a bright light for extended periods.
Usually laptop screens come in at specific levels:
220 nit
250 nits
300 nits
450 nits
500 nits
Often with a higher nit rating comes better colour reproduction.
100% sRGB is a good place to start with that, if interested.0 -
Thanks for the advice. I'm certainly no expert. In simple terms I tried a used tablet for my wife and she said it was too dull for her eyes so I presumed ( maybe wrongly ) that a brighter and of course clearer tablet/laptop is what I needed ?
