Barclays valuation 3 weeks ago no offer

Has anyone had any problems with Barclays mortgages? My buyer offered on my house 6 weeks ago. Valuation was done 3 weeks ago and there is still no sign of a mortgage offer. They have gone straight to Barclays and not through a mortgage broker so no way I can chase it or check anything. Do I re list? Help

  • 6 weeks seems quite a long time! Have you not asked them or the estate agent what is happening?

I have just applied for a mortgage with Nationwide and from start to finish it was 14 days (actual).
  • Yes I’ve asked him and he’s telling me he’s chasing it daily by email and phone.  Estate agents can’t do anything because he’s gone direct

You need to contact the estate agent for an update.
The buyer will know what is going on.
The banks might be busy with higher applications but 3 weeks should have heard back.
  • I spoke to them today, she called him and he told her the same. He’s saying they have said he is in the pile for the underwriter to look at it is what he’s saying

Maybe give it another week or 2, maybe their case is complicated.

Might need to go with another buyer if they are unable to get a mortgage.
  • Yeah I think that’s what we are going to do. I’ve spoke on chat to Barclays tonight and they said mortgage applications are currently taking 6-8 weeks. It’s been 6 up to now so will leave it another two. Doesn’t help that they post out offers….who even does that now. You would think it would be internet based in this day and age!

    I will keen you posted

No reason for your buyer to tell anything about their mortgage application. To put it politely it's none of your business.  I won't be personally happy with direct contact from the vendor, absolutely no need.
  • That’s your choice. We both agreed to stay in contact. We had many interested people and they promised a quick completion being first time buyers. What works for you doesn’t work for other people

Barclays took 4 weeks from valuation to offer for me. We were gettibg pressure from to EA but there was nothing we could do to make it go quicker. The EA knew we weren't pushing affordability so could talk to the vendors to reassure them a bit.

They are probably regretting it now. Not satisfied with what the EA is telling you . You are contacting them direct. Still not satisfied your are contacting Barclays. The conveyancing process hasn't even started yet.
