  • So guys, my electricity is with neon reef and gas with EDF ( ex utility point) .. Today I contacted octopus and have moved both fuels to the Helpful octopus November 2021 v1 tariff.
The gas is £4.36 per month more expensive than the standard tariffs for my usage so not bad for 24 months .Electric is more expensive than neon reef but I don't expect them to be around much longer anyway.

    Usage is:

    Gas 8316
    Elect 3013

    £95 per month
How come you left neon reef, reckon they will drop? Their tarriffs are amazing- really wanted to move onto their electric 17p but Ofgem blocked my switch!!
My electric with Neon Reef is 13.2p kw but my tariff ends in February.. I made the decision to leave now and fix at decent rates for two years.. also the cap increases again in April so I assumed suppliers will be fixing at higher rates then still.
The octopus tariff has zero exit fees and is currently (for me) £10 cheaper per year than the current price cap.
And yes unfortunately I cant see Neon Reef lasting the winter.

To anybody who switched electric but left gas on a capped tariff - I have successfully migrated my gas over and that is also now fixed until the same date at 4.65p per unit.

Major thanks to @bristolleedsfan for highlighting this tariff which might end up saving me a 4 figure sum when all is said and done.

How did you do this? I am in the same position and originally only transferred my electric across..

As with all my (successful) interactions with them, I just asked nicely on Twitter.
Hi there, am I able to bring my Gas over to Octopus and stay on the same tariff as I'm already on with Octopus for Electricity?

I didn't explicitly ask them to put me on the closed tariff (as that would be a bit cheeky I felt) but I presumed that might be what happened. The switch completed today and weirdly the gas side of my account didn't show any tariff. I followed up on Twitter:
Thanks [helpful person name] - I can see it's all live but I can't see the tariff info, can you confirm it?

And they confirmed they had set it so it was on the same tariff with the same end date.

Obviously nothing is guaranteed but worst case as I saw it was I'd end up with Gas on a capped account with Octopus rather than Bulb, since I'd asked for the electricity tariff to be protected.

As this 2Y fixed tariff has now come to an end, what is the best option now?

Have you been following octopus tracker rates? Very similar prices to what this fix was 2 years ago but if course variable.

Depends what you need certainty with a fix or the fun of tracker.
