In current climate fantastic fixed rate  I noticed on  https://octopus.energy/tariffs/ put postcode in, dont click get quote filter domestic/fixed scroll to Helpful Octopus 24M Fixed November 2021 v1

My region rates comparison, standing charges same
Unit rate:                Electricity 18.6 p/kWh :Gas 4.67 p/kWh
Current Cap          Electricity 20.14pkwh  Gas 4.04pkwh

Cheapest Octopus Gas kwh rate since Octopus 24M Fixed September 2021 v1, Cheapest Octopus Electricity non smart fixed rate tariff since Octopus 24M Fixed June 2021 v1

Octopus Customers - Just need to communicate with them via normal channels to change either/both fuels to that named tariff, mentioning understanding  can change to any tariff on current tariff list

Not a customer, suggest contacting Octopus via normal channels ask to switch to that named tariff which is on current tariff list

My region rates comparison, standing charges same

Current Cap Gas   Electricity 20.14pkwh  Gas 4.04pkwh

It is a great rate in terms of current fix rate tariffs for sure, 'bonkers' may be a little OTT though :)

It's not so great if you're using more gas than electric.

Hence why I did not express a personal opinion about gas rate, someome can just switch  electricity to that tariff and leave gas on energy capped tariff or any other current tariff if they wish, which is what I would do

The tariff in the OP works out as £1284 for Ofgem's average dual-fuel consumer. If you use proportionately more electricity but less gas it's likely to save you a little bit.

No dice for new customers. I rang and was told it was only the 12 month fixed tariff available.
  • Energy companies show old tariffs existing customers are on as well as new ones. Often they're in the form "Tariff Blah-Blah" v1, v2, v3 etc. Only the latest v shows the prices for new accounts.

This has become common since the prices are changing almost weekly. Going through the "Quote" Chanel will only show the latest 'v' which is the currently available one.

Take a look for yourself - the historic tariffs are listed separately. This one shows as a 'current tariff'. Incidentally all the 'current tariff's are v1 or v2.

These tariffs still have "Current customers" so they are not "Historic". It doesn't mean they're available to "New customers".

My "v1"Tariff is on the list, but new customers will only be offered "v6".
