Is there a debit card for kids with monthly limits?

In that case, perhaps my question can be asked omitting the word "young".crumpet_man said:
I don't like carrying coins either and I'm all grown up. Much rather have a card than a pocket of change.General_Grant said:
Is this because he belongs to a group of young people who believe in throwing away coins as not worth bothering with?jonbey said:My 14yr old son has started going out with friends, and cash is a PITA as he does not like carrying coins, and I rarely have any notes in the house these days anyway.
I've Googled for child debit cards, but not found anything - only child bank accounts.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to give him a card that has a monthly limit on it, eg £50, so he can get a meal with friends or buy himself something, but never exceed it.
Is there something?
My current account is with Barclays, but I could not see anything there.

I have opened a child current account for my first born with Barclays, RBS and HSBC as soon as he turned 12. Barclays was done through Video Banking, RBS completely online and HSBC in branch. We give him weekly allowance, gift and special achievement awards directly on the account and he is learning how to manage them. None of the account can be overdrawn so he can only spend what it is on them and we get paper statement so we can check what he is doing with the money. As I have HSBC premier, he has also received a separate premier card (not a debit or bank card of any sort, just a plastic card with his name on it) that can be used in case of emergency by visiting in person any HSBC branch worldwide and get some money (I cannot remember exactly how much)1
