BT Connection Problems

Writing on behalf of my 79 year old Mum.
She has just moved into a new flat, everything is digital.
Her Broadband works and BT did connect her home phone for about a week and then it went off.
I have been on the phone countless times to BT who do not seem capable of reconnecting this line - it has been over 6 weeks now.
Mobile reception is patchy at best in the flat. So it is quite dangerous for an elderly person. Her Emergency Aid Fall Alert also does not work.
I simply do not know what to do.
Do any of you have any tips that may help me get this situation resolved for my Mum?
Thank you in advance.

This makes no sense, what do you mean "everything is digital"?

If the phone/broadband has gone off, raise it as a fault.  And tell BT your mother is vulnerable if you haven't done so already.
  • Apparently there is a new digital system in the flats
    So yes, the internet works.
But the phone line - which will be connected to the digital, it does not.
And yes, I have for the past 6 weeks continually raised that she is vulnerable.
I am on the phone for 30mins + at a time.
And yet there is still no phone working in the flat.

Who provides or is responsible for this digital thing ??whatever it may be  .
Have BT said anything regarding a fault .
The BT Members Community forum is an excellent way of getting help from CS .

If no phone but internet it could be the filter on the phone line faulty .
  • I am told that this is a (problem) coming to the rest of us soon as BT have decided to cease all landlines by 2025 so we are completely stuck - especially as there is no mobile signal. These new flats were not made for the old landline system.
I will try the BT members society.
It is NOT the phoneline it is the new digital system. There is no phoneline.
See a news article on the situation here:

Firstly the Daily Fail article is a load of bunkum (as is the Fail as a whole but that's beside the point), because the headline says "Landline phones will be axed by 2025", but that is not the case.  All that's happening is the technology that powers the landline is changing, it doesn't mean it'll vanish into a black hole.

Second of all, this "digital" thing of which you speak - is it like a communal thing?  If its communal that's normally something whoever owns the flat has to deal with.  Who actually owns it?  Did BT install it?  Who installed it?
  • Neil, I am trying to help my 79 year old Mum, there is no need to be rude. Just do not post if you have no useful advice thanks.
We have been told by BT that there is no landline at the flats - that the whole block is serviced digitally.
There is a BT box in her entrance hall.
All the other flats are working, BT keep saying that they can fix this remotely but, for 6 weeks and a multitude of calls this has not happened.

If her broadband is working then there must be a landline into the property. Being 'digital' does not remove the need for a copper or fibre-optic cable into the property.
Also answered on your duplicate thread.
Neil's question is not rude, he's just trying to get fuller info. Perhaps a pic of the BT box would help us identify what 'digital' system you are referring to?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • OK thank you.
That is not what they are telling us! And this has been going on and on...
Perhaps I am confusing matters and would simply like advice on the following:
What does an individual do if BT repeatedly cannot provide a phone line?
    Who would I contact?
  • OK thank you. Priority Services Register.

I assume this means the "landline" service is provided by BT Digital Voice, which the VOIP replacement for the traditional analogue phone line. It sounds as if the flats have not been provisioned with copper

When you say new flat, do you mean new to her, or new build?
