  • If you don't fancy the free LibreOffice then this for £18.40 with the current 20% discount code

    Older versions available for less.
  • You can try Scribus (free and open source) for opening the Publisher files.
I have never used Publisher nor Scribus, but there's no harm in trying it before spending any money.

I don't think you will have any problems with LibreOffice and Word/Excel files. I find the compatibility to be very good, even with spreadsheets that people send me which have been made to look like apps with fairly complex macros.
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?

LibreOffice can (it says here) open Publisher files, though it may not look exactly as it did in Publisher (but the basics should be there, just might have to tweak a few things).  Haven't tried this though.

Are you planning on ditching your old PC or keeping it?

If the former, you can uninstall (or maybe disassociate) Office from old and install on new *but* just check that MS are happy with you doing this, as there used to be issues, don't know if this is still the case.

You can transfer it over. OEMs you weren't supposed to but the checks weren't strict and you were never going to prison for violating it.

Had this discussion before with someone on here who was addiment these keys were legit "I used to be a reseller to companies" blah blah. They are not. This super cheap ones and the cheap ones on ebay are knock offs and at some point can stop working.

Apologies, Publisher was dragged into it upthread.
I can't fault LibreOffice Impress for working well with PowerPoint presentations.

No you won't go to prison for it as it's not a criminal matter. However, Microsoft may invite you to make recompense and threaten/undertake civil proceedings for breaching their EULA. I think it is extremely unlikely but not impossible.

  • I see that doubts have been expressed about the legitamacy of license codes purchased from Ebay and this may or may not be the case. I have purchased from this source before and never had any issues.

The reason I am posting however is that license keys can also be purchased from Groupon , e.g. https://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/microsoft-office-2016-717522863

and whilst I may be wrong, I have always regarded that organisation as being perfectly legitimate.

Never had any problems moving Office to a new machine.  Admittedly mostly genuine with disc and licence copies but have done a couple of OEMs.
