I need newer M/S Office ....but which version?

Options

I need to buy a newer Microsoft Office suite for my HP Laptop running Win-10.  I presently run ‘Microsoft Office Pro + 2007 version’ and I need to ensure any new M/S Office will be compatible with my current files. The new Office suite must contain Excel, Word and PowerPoint as a minimum.

Any suggestions please.

I need to buy a newer Microsoft Office suite

Why? when you already have one. suggestions :- Libreoffice supports your list.  If you have to have Microsoft, all apps from your list are in the basic "Home and Student"
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

The only "compatibility" you will run into file wise will be Publisher.  Once you save Publisher files in a newer version of it, no other (older) version can open it.

That aside, everything else should at the minimum be able to open the file and get the main data.

Thanks for the reply,,...sorry, I should have been clearer;...I need to copy my ‘Office’ files to a newer Win-10 laptop which doesn’t have any MS Office s/w at the moment. I need to buy new MS Office s/w for the newer laptop which is able to read ‘Microsoft Office Pro + 2007’ files once I’ve transferred said files across to the newer laptop.

I’ve not used other M/S Office versions apart from ‘Microsoft Office Pro + 2007’ very much at all ;...does the ‘Home and Student’ use Word and Excel in a format that I’d recognize?

You don't need Office to "copy" the files.  You can do it via the standard Explorer interface.

Thanks for the reply Neil, ...I’m  ok with copying the various Excel/Word files etc across to the other laptop. But once copied across I can’t do anything with them until I buy a version of MS Office that will actually run them.

What about Office Online as a workaround? https://www.office.com/ If you have a Microsoft account then you should be able to use that.

Note that any newer version of office will look different to the 2007 version. (Does that one have the "ribbon" bar? I'm not sure if that was the version which introduced it).

Thanks Jenni,..I’ll need to use Office  ongoing but at the moment my priority is being able to open my existing Office files on the new laptop. Office 2007 does have the ribbon bar.

Office Online will be able to open your files and let you work on them. Maybe not the best long-term solution, but at least gets you going until you resolve how you wish to implement a permanent solution. :)

I get a lot of documents sent to me which have been created in various versions of Office (97 onwards) and have no problems with them when I need to update, edit or incorporate into Office 2010 documentation both Word and Excel that clients ask for. Only problem I had was not fully removing 365 on a new laptop, once I did that all was fine. I keep everything backed up on a seperate drive on a daily basis.  My licence is for three machines

But what the other poster is saying is you DON'T need to buy a version of MS Office that will actually run them. You can just download, for free because it is Open Source software, Libra Office. Once that is installed, it will be able to open all your Office files. If you decide you don't like Libra Office you can simply uninstall it and then you'll need a new version of Office (although your older one will run on it just fine).
