Could your neighbour do a lateral flow test? Then come back on here with the result? It takes less than an hour.

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

No -  the whole  household should self isolate for 10 days.

    Is that right?
According to Self-isolation removed for double-jabbed close contacts from 16 August - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) "From Monday 16 August, people who are double jabbed or aged under 18 will no longer be legally required to self-isolate if they are identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case".

  • I wouldn't risk it. Chances are much reduced but not eliminated with the jab.
    It is hard.
  • There’s is no requirement to self isolate if you are double jabbed unless you yourself test positive.

However  it would be courteous to explain to the deceased person’s family members the situation, and involve them in the decision- they may not feel comfortable,  perhaps there will be vulnerable family members present who have not yet had their booster jab . Alternatively, if your neighbour decides not to go , without explanation, they may wonder why your neighbour decided not to attend .

It is very difficult to miss these important life events - your “neighbour” could enquire if the funeral service is going to be live streamed and can join by that way - many funerals offered this service during lockdown so it may be an option to join in that way .

I'd also speak to the family to see if they are comfortable, and naturally she needs to be sensible about social distancing, ensuring she has a negative LFT on the morning of the funeral.

If double jabbed, there is no legal requirement to isolate, however there's no chance I'd personally do this without arrangement previously to negate the risk to others.

Transmission is unimpacted by having the jab. If you have Covid then you can pass it on to someone else. Severity of illness is  potentially reduced that's all.

I'm double jabbed (70+) and went down with COVID in a big way.   My doctor came out and has also telephoned me since.Have to wait now for 28 days before I can get booster 3

NHS texts and phone calls  repeatedly made the point that I must ensure the household Self isolates. No IF's.

This version of COVID is dreadful - LFT on 14/10 and PCR on 18/10 confirmed.

Don't go to the funeral !!!!!

I wouldn't go. It doesn't really matter what the 'law' says because the virus is still being passed around and people are still dying from coronavirus daily. Even if your neighbour doesn't have it, because her daughter does, she could easily pass it along to others.

Your neighbour could contact her friend's family to explain (if all other methods of communication fail, she could send a note through the post). I'm sure there would be no ill will at all.

Before coronavirus struck, I went to the funeral of a friend but didn't go to the buffet afterwards. When I later spoke to his wife on the phone, she didn't even know I'd been at the funeral but not at the buffet - she herself was too upset to notice who was there and who wasn't. That is often the case. Your neighbour means well but sometimes these things just cannot be helped. Much better to be safe than sorry.
