My car was hit and scratched, I have the license plate

Went to use my car this afternoon and found it with a scratch across one of the doors. The car parked next to it was the same colour as the scratch so it's pretty obvious what happened. There's also a small but noticeable dent now on an otherwise fine car.
I have the license plate of the other car and have taken photos of the damage and the other car. What should I do next? Thanks.

Without any real evidence your options are limited unless you get the driver to admit what's happened.0

Try and find proof , like CCTV
A vague " the car was the same colour as the scratch" is not evidence .Ex forum ambassador

Contact your insurance company. There is no proof it was that car that caused the damage. You could ask around the neighbours to see if any cctv or any witnesses.0

Also check the other car for corresponding scratches and dents, this would help to establish proof.0

Yeah, should have said, the other car's wing mirror is no longer there, which I have a picture of, and it's the exact height of the scratch.0

Sadly your excess and subsequent increase in premiums will exceed the cost of repairs
get it repaired yourself
thats life with cars/insurersNow we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...1 -
Think twice before contacting your insurance.First off it doesn't matter about this other car unless there's witnesses or CCTV or the owner comes forward and says yes it was me officer.I'll go 1 better than you and I actually got driven in to rather than a car park door ding. Guy went to overtake me but there was a number of cars ahead of me making his move stupid. Traffic was oncoming and he pushed his way left....in to me before falling back in to where he was.I pull over at the next safest spot to exchange details. He drives on.I contact police who story short ended up asking him what the deal was and he said I wasn't even there officer. Oh that ding? Yeah someone drove in to me some time.Like a good little boy I told the insurance because that's what you're supposed to do right?Biggest mistake. If i went through them they'd have probably written the car off, which i didn't want. If i'd have paid for it myself it would've cost a wedge which i didn't want. So next year will be the final year that I end up paying elevated premiums because of this.Had i kept my mouth shut, at least as far as the insurance went, i'd have saved myself some money.1

Well that's fairly conclusive. Guess I just suck it up then.0
