Now the seats are out does a sniff test confirm they are the issue?

  • Hi,
I would think there will still be a lingering turps smell, but with the offending seat out has a better chance of clearing with ventilation, and a wee smelly Christmas tree hanging from the mirror.

It's only the bottom cushion part that they will be replacing, nothing structural
That's the point.  It isn't a case of 'only' when it comes to car seats.

In most modern cars the 'bottom cushion' isn't just a nice squishy cushion, it plays an active role in the safety of the people sitting on it.

Google 'anti-submarine seat' for why they are a safety-critical component.
