"The bank Investec said the conflict, along with surging global demand, had made gas and electricity prices soar.

It expects the energy price cap, which limits what suppliers can charge, to hit £3,238 a year for the average home when it's next adjusted in October."

    That's an insane rise!

Yes, I am sure glad I fixed for 18 months last December.  Now I just have to worry about June next year.

I'm thankfully also fixed (12 months) until February 2023 (on account of my fears about the Ukraine conflict). However, I've already seen a lot of people massively shocked by the price increase due to the April cap, so many people are not ready are able to pay for such a massive increase in October.

  • For me and likely many others fixing was not really an option during the past few months as majority of suppliers were offering 12mths.i am already tied into a low Elec rate with Octopus Go until August 22 so only needed to sort the Gas, and with historically next to nothing Gas usage for me between March & October I would only gain maybe 2-3 months at a lower rate from October 22 to December 22, but would have paid alot more on a fix from December 21 to October 22.

All the outgoing rates are here. Clearly, it pays more when demand is high and fewer people are able to
    export
