The AA, bad instruction led to further damage
Hi Guys
I had some bad instruction from the AA mechanic on my breakdown.
The instruction he gave led to further damage on the way for repair at my local garage and now the repair has more than doubled.
The electronic parking brake had seized on overnight and would not disengage. The breakdown mechanic told me to drive to my local garage, when I asked about a tow he said no need it's all sorted but I'll follow you just in-case.
Halfway their ( about 0.5 mile ) I stopped at traffic lights and there was a lot of smoke from the wheel. I wound the window down and asked the AA man what to do, he replied that I should continue. When I arrived at the garage, there was so much smoke I thought the car would burst into flame.
The Mechanic at the garage was gobsmacked that the AA man had told me to drive but had said that it was okay when all the smoke was coming from the wheel.
I had the discs and pads done about 6 weeks ago. Initially the parking brake servo needed a service, about £100, after the drive to the garage, the servo, disc and brakepads need replacing, at a cost of over £700.
I'm not a car person and paid for AA breakdown as I don't have the knowledge, I thought I'd be safe to trust their instruction.
I feel tottally let down and out of pocket.
I'm looking for any advice from people who may of had a similar experiance and how they claimed costs back from the AA.
I'm still waiting to collect the car from the garage before officially lodging a complaint with The AA. I have contacted the AA for their breakdown report (not signed by me) as the initial report says I signed it, which I never. The mechanic also used two names, Matthew on the phone and David on his report.
Hopefully they will be able to compensate, failing that I'm so far looking at a website called "Resolve" and/or "The Small Claims process - online."
Thanks for your time
Simon
