Energy companies going bust reclaiming credit

Options

   Hello

Please excuse this post if someone has asked this question already ... I couldn't see anything when I looked. I was with Pure Planet and transferred to Octopus on the 2nd October. Pure Planet went bust on the 13th October. I was in credit with Pure Planet for around £100. They didn't notify me of this until the 15th October. They didn't credit my account with monies owed. I know that people who were with Pure Planet are being transferred to Shell and they will honour any credit owed. I had already moved and so won't go to Shell. I have contacted my new company Octopus and they say that it is not their responsibility. Am at a bit of a loss about what to do. I called Citizen's advice line and the energy queries are just being put through to an automated voice message. Does anyone know if I can reclaim this money and who might be responsible?! Thank you

You'll get the credit from Shell, eventually.

I was in a similar position, a year or so ago, having moved from YP to PfP, just before the former went bust. I go my YP credit back from Scottish Poer after a couple of months. It may take longer, now, because of the sheer numbers of SoLR transfers.

How did they get in touch, by letter or email? I left Symbio on 2nd August. I gave them my new address twice but neither time did they confirm they had made a note of it when I specifically asked them to confirm this.

Initial contact was by email. Payment was by cheque, so you'd need to let the SoLR know you've moved if they pay that way. If you didn't cancel the DD they may be able to pay back via that. Not all SoLRs work the same way.
  • Thanks for your feedback Verdigris ... much appreciated! :)
