Does my car really need a service?

Hi All,

My car is a 67 plate so coming up to 4 years now. I've had a full service history so far with it and I've always taken it directly back to the Hyundai dealer to complete. However, they are now asking for over £300 as it is the 4 year / 40000 mile service which I'm guessing is considered a milestone?
Anyway, I've only done 18000 miles and can't afford to fork out that amount of money.

So my options are... take it to a local garage to service and MOT or do I just forget the service altogether and just get an MOT?

  • That £300 now is going to save you so much more over the life of the car.

£300 for a milestone service isn't massive either.

You could consider finding an independent garage, I would try and stay with the service milestones up until you sell it, regardless of who you use.

Most second owners would be looking for FSH.

    Yes.

Alright they could be overcharging a bit as main $tealers are won't to do, bit there really is no point scrimping.

I’d take it to the dealer to keep your warranty, yes you can go elsewhere but should something major go wrong then Hyundai will look at anything to get out of honouring that warranty

...£300 is small beans compared to losing your warranty, and far less than the loss you will probably incur when you to sell....just pay it.

What if I take it to a local garage to get serviced? That's still got full service history?

At four years old, I presume it would be out of warranty now.

There’s nothing to stop you taking it to a decent vat registered Indy. However, you might just be saving around £100. So is it worth it?

Look at what is replaced at 4 years / 40k in your handbook. If its a milestone some items are replaced regardless, whereas intermediate services they are "check and replace if required".

If it was a 7-10 year old car - I would say sure - oil change/filters only.
