What thoughts anyone that I make a payment but make a 'reasonable' deduction for the time & effort spent in pursuing the claim?

Just pay them what you owe them.
They should be charging you, not the other way around.0 -

They should be charging you, not the other way around.Ok thanks for your thoughts.
Actually I was not sure that I owed them anything, certainly not any good will. They broke the contract and after many months and a lot of effort they reluctantly refunded me. Wahay, aren't they the good ones........?I was looking to clarify my separate relationship with the credit card company. I had thought I might owe them something.0 -

You were over-refunded as a result of double claiming. Why do you think you should be up on the deal?
It cost the company because there are charges that they have to pay when they lose a chargeback. And still you act like a petulant child who thinks they're right.
I don't envy people who work in customer service...1 -

OK, OK, I get your point...... I never double claimed and went out of my way to inform the credit card company within days I had been refunded. To be honest the whole thing was forgotten a year ago and then this petulant inefficient company starts demanding money with menaces. It wasn't my fault they were acting illegally by cancelling my holiday and then not refunding me. With the time & effort required I don't think I am up on the deal and will definitely be well down when I return the deposit. They only had to pay charge-back because they were in the wrong. And for the record it is the holiday company that has made it long-winded.

Make all the excuses you want (menaces? Really?!) but you owe the money.FYI menaces would be sending a van full of people to your house, not a letter requesting payment.I think you know you’re being a bit silly, and that you need to pay up.2

It has probably been picked up by auditors at the end of the year.
if the company had discovered you had overpaid no doubt you would expect them to repay you.
In that case, why should you not repay them when you are the one with the overpayment.1 -
I think you're right Roxy to be annoyed and to make it as difficult as possible for them as they did to you.
Bare in mind that some people on here own and run businesses so are not always (actually frequently aren't) on the side of the consumer. Yes you probably owe the money but they owed you money at one point and made your life hell to reclaim it. At that time you had done nothing to harm that company so why did they treat you so badly?
Make a deduction (suggest it if you think any reasonable person would agree). Maybe even make it quite small just to make you feel better and make it impossible for the other side to reclaim. Wait for their Letter before Action as very unlikely to make a successful claim without that. Set up a premium rate number for them to contact you. Lots of ideas in Google I'm sure. Just make sure you don't end up paying any more than what you owe via the legal process.1 -

two wrongs don’t make a right, you’re advocating being an annoying hassle to a company just because you think you should be. Well done, you’re as bad as her4
