Hi all,
I've noticed my IHD doing some odd things.  It keeps jump around from being in red, to orange, to green, back to red and I've got nothing on other than standard items like bedroom clocks, fridge, microwave & oven (off) but showing time and smoke detector.

Its been fine up till now, I've switched providers a while back since having it installed and its been fine, not seen any higher usage to date so makes me think the IHD maybe faulty.  As I've switched supplier (was sse, now esbenergy), is it possible to request a new IHD? Anyone have  guide on how to pair it up?

I had a look on esb website but only saw details regarding smart meters in general, not IHD's.

Thanks

Kev

What power levels are being indicated when the bar is moving into the different colour bands? My guess is that the threshold values associated with the different bands is wrong...

It's whatever it was set to when installed, I've never changed it... I had literally come home, no one else home so was only person there and it was sitting in the red... then after a minute or two, dropped to orange.... then after a minute or two, went to green briefly then back up to Red and I didn't turn anything on etc... so was doing of its own accord.

Unit said was 60w so 0.06kw.  AS shown below from a pic found online of my IHD, it looks like it should only go into red zone from maybe 7kw and above?

Suppliers are only obliged to support their IHDs for 12 months. Some may offer a replacement but raise a charge for doing so. Only a supplier or a Registered DCC User can link an IHD or CAD to your comms hub.

Mine sometimes briefly goes amber as the fridge, freezer, or boiler pumps kick in...but only on initial start up, so it only lasts a few seconds, before going back to green.

Sorry, can't offer any other explanation.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

I think where the thresholds are could be adjustable. Do you have a manual for your IHD to see if it gives any information on this?

My IHD allows me to set my own target consumption which then tries to work out the optimum energy consumption. This means it flashes from, Green-Orange-Red and back again as stuff like the fridge, freezer, coffee machine, and anything else cuts in an out -

TBH I dont worry about it because I know whats on and what it should be consuming. I do feel that unless some people are given trainng in the use of the IHD and how to interpret what it's displaying then they can get really uptight about what it's trying to tell them.

Personally I'd like more info presented as raw data rather than just pretty lights which in general are meaningless and just confuse people

Don't most present both? Mine does, and the one in the photo above seems to?

This happened with nothing on, fridge hadn't been opened so just on, it hadn't kicked in to lower temp etc from being opened etc.  Usually, I don't pay much notice as I have items on etc as when i turn kettle on etc it goes red, then back to green after but this was with nothing really in which is why i was bit dubious, its usually always in low green area when i come home. Its not been moved, unplugged etc, its been n same spot for over 2 years lol.

Don't think i got a manual, other than a very basic 1 or 2 pages, id have to go through menus but as said, i never set it and I'm on a fixed plan which i fixed before price rises etc.
