@Suffolk_lass - you're not wrong about the best way to avoid spending being to stay out of the supermarket.
@LadyWithAPlan - the fudge was a huge hit with my friends this afternoon. I've popped some in the freezer so that I can see if the recipe is right about that making the texture extra nice purely as a comparison you understand.
I spent £9 at M*rks today on cannellini beans, butter beans, y/s baby parsnips, f/f g. s. yoghurt, garlic, lemons, 2 x aubergine, bread and y/s mushrooms which makes my new monthly total £35.19/£120 and my average daily spend £3.51.7 -
DH had to get cat biscuits when he went to give blood. £5.79 (! eek!) from ToysRUs Pets at Home. We are at £42.23 with just the few bits this month but I will need dairy (yogurt and cheese) and carrots, if nothing elseSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Had to get some flavoured water and milk from the shop this morning at Mr T. I noticed the kids favourite cakes were on offer so I bought a couple of packs which should last a couple of week.£5.88 spent. The struggle was real when I very nearly took a detour to L!dl as it was just at the right time for reductions. I stayed strong though and went straight home 😀Signature updated

Hi all. Been missing in action over the summer, busy with sheep, hens and grandchildren! I've tallied up my spends so far for the year, all shopping is via credit card, so quite easy and get M&S vouchers. Total for the year to date is £2569.80/£2750. Might struggle here to stay on target. I also have a £50 Tesco voucher, about £13 in nectar points and £22 in M&S vouchers. The turkey is in the freezer along with a big piece of beef and a whole salmon. Still have sprouts, carrots, cabbage, kale, parsnips and Jerusalem artichokes growing outside. Both freezers are full to bursting, as is the pantry. Also, once we've room, i will put a sheep in the freezer. Will I keep to the budget? Watch this space.
This budget is for most meals for eight people, plus extras when they come to stay. It includes non food such as soap liquid and toilet rolls. So even if i go over, I shan't beat myself up.

Oh dear, not good. Had to buy an unexpected take-away last night (£35) because of a plumbing emergency; we now have just one cold-water tap coming off the incoming mains valve, thanks to a corroded pipe. We can fill buckets & jugs to flush loos, clean teeth, boil the kettle & fill my little emergency urn, but no heating or hot water on tap for now. So I need to keep washing-up to a minimum; luckily we have lots of paper plates etc. left over from long-ago parties. I now have just over £100 to feed 5 adults with 2 different diets for the rest of November. Luckily stores (store-cupboard & freezer) are high, though I don't really want to run them down very far at this point in the year, also when isolation is still a possibility. We'll cope.
But - stiff upper lip & all that - I'm still going to try to keep to it... an interesting challenge, and we're darn lucky it's not a whole lot worse.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6 -
In the last 10 days I have had only 2 NSDs and am heading to Tesco tonight so today shall not be another.
Despite all the topping-up I am so far happy with my spend as am very just inside the £120pw£237.31/£550
I'm tracking everything I but this month to see if I can spot any leakages, so far I've identified the following:
- £10 on Lucozade!!! at this rate it will be £30 for the month. Needs to stop!!!!
- Category spend above £10 MTDMeat 37.84 Alcohol 33.00 Treats 21.84 Beverages 15.71 Cheese 13.37 Vegetables 11.94 Bread 11.30
- If you add alcohol & treats together that's £55 so far, on fully optional items.
I think the biggest change in reality is staying out of the local shops and reducing the number of times per week I shop. Will soon be getting a garage freezer which I will fill with bread, milk, cheese & ham as these seem to be big drivers for going to the shop, and then coincidentally picking up lucozade and other treats (cake etc) for both DH and I.

I can’t now remember who mentioned it but my Tetrapak hummus arrived today and it’s DELICIOUS!! So thank you, whoever it was! Also made flatbreads with yoghurt and flour, super easy and MS, went well with curry and chilli (harlequin freezer-dive dinner)
My most-run-out-of-things are bread, yoghurt, cheese, baked beans and cat food so I try to double up on those in order to stay out of the shops

So I will borrow this idea, I run out of the things that are heavy (DF milks) or fragile (eggs, Df yogurts) so I am almost need to try an early monthly shop just for these items
That flatbread sounds delicious, may have a try,. I have homemade moong dal, cooked brown rice and a YS chicken curry I pulled out my freezer for Friday evening food so flatbread sounds fun. Will add some linseed to see if that helps bulk it
