For various reasons I need to get a cheapish smartphone handset to replace an old spare phone. This one will only be used very occasionally for calls/texts in emergency if my main one is broken/lost/no service, but I may download and use some online banking apps so need it to be a smartphone. Thanks for coming back and updating- Mum & I both had Alcatel budget phones a few years ago, both absolutely rubbish and I'd personally never recommend the brand now.

In fact I sold mine to Cex and felt really, really bad for whoever ended up buying it!

We've both got budget Samsungs now (I'm on my second after upgrading) and they are totally brilliant, so not all budget phones are bad.
