    So i was on the right track...
    Pretty dumb way of wiring  a multipoint system though.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Yep. Turns out the engineer was right. It was a switch in one of the flats they had decided to randomly turn off. TV and broadband working fine now. 

    At least i know now if it happens again. Thank you all.

    Well, maybe not so random if they don't use the Virgin services but are paying for the power needed to run it in the other flats.
