I'm assuming those interested in this 'new' grant scheme were not involved in the recent Green Homes Grant scheme?.
If you were you would be avoiding this like a 'new plague'.
Companies will not sign up to this after the last shambolic scheme.
But good luck when you find out £5k is probably half of what most estimates will be.0 -
It amazes me that government are happy to spaff taxpayers money on heat pump grants but wont give grants to replace so called zombie boilers which are more than 30/40 years old and deemed most inefficient.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

They are. They're encouraging zombie boiler owners to get a heat pump and come into the 21st century. The idea is to phase out gas, not encourage its use.

The RHI scheme works OK. Why shouldn't the simpler handing out of a voucher work?

I haven't. If they can make the more complicated RHI scheme work then handing over a voucher is child's play. You will still have to have the MCS paperwork to prove you have an eligible system.

Considering that a lot of nuclear power stations are closing down, and so far not being replaced, we will be reliant on solar and wind power. The more we go onto electricity the greater problems we will have. Hydrogen would be a good replacement but new heaters and mains pipework could well be needed so I can't see it happening soon.I think things being done the wrong way round. Get the electricity supply sorted then go for the heat pumps. Don't forget that all vehicles will soon be electric.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Upgrading all the street and house/building cables will cost £billions......depending how many heat pumps are being installed. Not many domestic properties have the available power supply to run these things.
Will that be part of the £5000 grant?
I doubt it.0 -
For most houses a heat pump that uses less than an electric shower will be enough.

It appears you can't get the grant to replace an existing heat pump, that has come to end of life and requires replacement.
I have bought a property that already has a ground source heat pump, installed about 2007. It is now coming to end of life, and I need to consider replacing it.
Realistically in my case it appears the most cost effective thing for me to do is replace it with a modern high efficiency electric boiler (We don't have mains gas supply in our area).
We have been quoted £18,000 to replace our system, note we already have the ground loop in place, so dont the have the excavation cost of fitting that.
Compared against the cost of an electric combi boiler installation, where is the incentive for people to stay with alternative heating systems. Where the incentive offered doesn't compete with the alternatives.
