Direct debits
Good Afternoon, My energy supplier (Igloo) ceased trading at the end of last month and a new supplier (E-on) has been allocated to me. When I heard Igloo were finished I stopped the direct debit to them. Now they have asked for payment for October. Do I pay? Also, as I have over £300 in credit why can they not take the DD (£75) from that? What is the credit for, if not that?
I am searching various places for an answer, but so far without luck and getting a bit frustrated.
Thanks for any help

Who is asking for payment ? If it is Igloo then no don't pay anything, in the unlikely event that it is E.On Next then yes you need to pay it as they are your new supplier and the credit from Igloo will be sorted in due course.

I'm in the same situation. Goto energy have sent me an email informing me that this month's direct debit is due to be taken, I'm in credit by more than £200 and my initial thought was to cancel the direct debit, on reflection I wonder if a missed bill payment may affect my credit score.Rich399 said:Good Afternoon, My energy supplier (Igloo) ceased trading at the end of last month and a new supplier (E-on) has been allocated to me. I cancelled my Direct Debit with Goto Energy (next payment due on 4 November) and got the following threat in an emailed letter:"We’ve been unable to collect your payments via Direct Debit, which means that your Direct Debit agreement has
been cancelled. Please be aware that if you intentionally cancel your Direct Debit, this will start an automated process whereby this
missed payment is recorded on your credit file. This process is described in detail in our T&Cs. We automatically
share information about failed payments with other creditors. Allowing this payment to continue to fail will affect
your credit report and it may prevent you accessing certain financial products such as lower mortgage rates and
other credit products."I'm guessing that this is an automatically generated email/letter and in reality nothing will happen. Given that they've ceased trading, they have no right to seek further payment, therefore there should be no missed payment to report to any credit agency. However, one to keep an eye on in respect of your credit rating and challenge if Goto do report your missed payment!!0
