What type of garage doors is the best

I have just moved into a new property and i am looking to buy a new garage door but feel a bit overwhelmed with all the different types. My top priority is security as we had our previous garage broken into. Any advice on what to get would be much appreciated! I am also based near York if anyone can recommend any good local companies.

  • I also go with electric doors, Hormann being my preferred, or Garador

Roller garage doors are fine if you don't mind your garage looking like a unit on an industrial estate. :D I prefer sectional myself but that's because I'm old.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

We had a sectional electric door fitted a few years back by zap garage doors in York, they are no longer at York and their nearest showroom is Leeds way ( I think)

If security is your priority, then I understand 'roller' is the best as it cannot be prised upwards, but obviously the sections will need to be resistant in themselves to being crowbarred.
I dare say you can also get roller types that 'look' ok   Perhaps by making them look like non-roller...
Our door is a 'retractable' type, which means the door rollers run on horizontal tracks which run under the garage ceiling, and it works super-smooth with an after-market electric opener (Liftmaster), but the ultimate strength of the door itself is what would determine how secure it is, and I suspect it could be bludgeoned or kicked down without too much difficulty.

    Coincidence?

If you are going for an electric door, pay a little more for a company with a good reputation and guarantee.

Avoid 'Value Doors.'  Cheap components, bad fitting and useless guarantee.

And that in itself would be a big enough reason for me not to use Clic Garage Doors of York.

Plus it can be more expensive to insure a car that is garaged at night rather than left on drive.
