All this is what your notice period is for. Attend the meeting, sit there like a nodding donkey and provide no information re your exit intentions.

I also enjoy my current role but hate the hours, inflexibility, and the fact they are making us go back to the office soon, I am going to reiterate this during the meeting, hopefully, there will be less bad blood.
If they try to make you leave after informing them of the situation it simply confirms that you are not as integral to the running of the business as you think. If they sack you for applying for another job they are opening themselves up to an unfair dismissal case and potentially a substantial payout. Hopefully you will get the job offer confirmed, and if the current employer wants you out you could request pay in lieu of notice and offer to start the new job early. Win-win for you.

You have to be ready to deal with a counter offer. why are you leaving what can we do to make you want to stay
If the decision is made you are leaving either to this current offer or another you don't really want to get into discussions over the things that are making you leave.
They can pick your reasons off one by one with promises,
More flexible working, TOIL to counter the increased holidays, some WFH, pay rise...
You could just open the meeting with you don't want the new job they are creating(don't have to say you are leaving) better get someone else to do it.
Wait for the unconditional offer before resigning.
This colleague is the only other person on our team that knows how to do the vast majority of my job (seeing as I took over her role beforehand), and I thought she would have taken over my responsibilities when I left until they rehired someone to take over my role. They are now discussing that I take on a lot of her role (as well as my own role) and hire someone to take over mine in the future, where I would teach them my role. Sorry, it's all a bit confusing.
How can that work, you have two people doing work and expect one to do both jobs, unless one of both of you were not that busy something has to give.
There would need to be a significant discussion of which bits of the joint role are getting handed off immediately.

So they are discussing - without you, it seems - how your existing role will change to help the organisation during this transition period: you take over part of the vacant role, you then have to train the new person, meanwhile everything falls on your shoulders.
Yet you still want to be nice to them and give them advance warning of handing in your notice?
Me, I'd sit there, nod wisely, and say nothing. You're leaving the organisation, goodwill is not going to get you a larger leaving present.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Would it be worth asking for better hours and a retention bonus? If your boss has any sense they will pick up that you are a flight risk without putting you in a precarious position and they might be able to persuade you to stay.

Never do that. You will just be marked as disloyal and first out the door if the company has problems.
To the OP, don't worry about it. It's up to the company to make sure they can cope with a couple of people leaving. Just act normally until you are ready to hand in your notice and don't get guilt tripped into doing an extended notice period or anything like that.0 -
It would be nice if @Fluffycat updates during the next visit as it helps others when they're in a similar situation.
Here's an example of what happened with me.
I've been running two roles for over a year, eventually the company were able to bring in a second person who took one of my responsibilities and I was effectively left with two roles still. The money wasn't anywhere near what it should be for what I'm doing.
I secured a new role back in the private sector, sent my resignation in and not one of them asked why.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.0
