Will it happen….Covid vaccine required to travel anywhere

Have been reading about cruise companies requiring passengers to have the Covid vaccine, no exceptions.
Is there a good chance all travel will go this way I wonder? Seems like blackmail to me. Personally, I am double jabbed but my teenage son (who has had Covid already) is wary about having it. It’s his choice but is it going to affect what he can do in life? They scrapped the vaccine passport idea in England because of the backlash from people, now it looks like there’s potentially an ultimatum if you wish to travel.

Anyone heard whispers of it heading this way?

It isn't blackmail, it's a marketing decision by the company. They feel that they will attract more customers by running cruises that are for vaccinated only passengers. Given that the cruise industry has suffered immensely, as we all remember the early covid times where cruise ships were petri dishes of infection, passesngers were locked in their cabins and ships were refused entry to ports in many areas, they want to show they are doing their utmost to make cruising safe.
Plenty of holidays available for people who aren't vaccinated.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Given the complete lack of consensus between countries up till now around entry requirements, a Covid vaccine to travel “anywhere” seems unlikely.
However as silvercar says, commercial decisions are a different ball game and will vary according to the demographic they value most highly. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
As the vast majority of the population becomes double vaccinated and some in the process of receiving boosters. Seems pretty obvious which market to cater for. However as silvercar says, commercial decisions are a different ball game and will vary according to the demographic they value most highly.0 -
I certainly hope so :-)

I suspect we will be getting boosters every year for some time till covid is beaten ,( if it can be )0

He can still travel as most places still accept negative tests rather than vaccination status. Who knows what the future holds though.Janey1a said:Have been reading about cruise companies requiring passengers to have the Covid vaccine, no exceptions.

I appreciate there’s still lots of holidays available at present, he wouldn’t be interested in a cruise! However it does concern me that, if we were to book something, the rules could change right up until departure date. It’s a big decision on his young shoulders.Don’t get me wrong, at my age it makes sense to have added protection but at his young age I can understand his hesitation with a vaccine that’s only just been introduced.I think a lot of people have been blindsided into the vaccine believing it’s the answer to everything but it doesn’t prevent you catching Covid or passing it on to others, not completely.I guess we’ll have to see what the next 6 months brings - I’m sure the MSE team will report if things change.1

It's already a requirement in some places, and the number will continue to grow. For international travel there is nothing you can do, their country and their rules.Janey1a said:Have been reading about cruise companies requiring passengers to have the Covid vaccine, no exceptions.

Part of the problem is that the medical community is taking too long to understand who can't take it and issue exemptions. For example a lot of people with CFS/ME are finding that AstraZenica has severe, life-changing side effects.Sandtree said:

Appreciate there is a tiny number who cannot have the vaccine due to immunity issues and perhaps some exemptions can be made (but the type involving letters from consultants not people just saying they're exempt).
The more that we can make those choosing not to have the vaccine social pariahs the better0 -
And the alternative is what? Covid isn't going to suddenly disappear. It's here to stay. Every day we all age and the personal health risks increase accordingly. Ask your son how he would feel if you contracted it from him and suffered severely as a consequence. As with many things in life, attitudes rapidly change when it's closer to home. Not just a media article about some random person.Janey1a said:I think a lot of people have been blindsided into the vaccine believing it’s the answer to everything but it doesn’t prevent you catching Covid or passing it on to others, not completely.3
