Out of interest, and relating I think only to the A m ex nectar card, did anyone else get a letter from them about June saying they were putting the interest rate up in order to make it easier to repay? I can't find said letter now.

Yes, but I have a gold card, I think they put up the purchase interest rate to 24.5%.
  • Thanks, Jay 1804, I didn't know if it was also go id card holders. I seem to be doubting myself now that I actually read what I think idid, a non logica l thought that the exact opposite to what they said would actually be the case, and it would as a result of their increasing the rate, actually take considerably longer to clear their ba lance. Could you perchance redact your personal into and scan the letter up here as an attachment? Or send by post to me only? jay1804 said:

@carryonuptheriver - the letter/rate change was personalised. If you ask Amex for a copy of the letter on live chat they will provide you with yours.

It's not unnormal for banks to pretend they're doing you a favour by changing the product terms adversely, unfortunately. If there is any risk of not paying off your card in full I would recommend not using an Amex, so the interest rate should be (almost) irrelevant.

Yes you can pay your council tax bill (letter with barcode) at co op with amex nectar.
It does depend on the council - mine specifically exclude paying by Amex
Co-op doesn't let you pay bills (PayPoint) with Amex but sometimes the cashier will accept.
Either direct payment to the council (online/phone) or PayPal are more viable options.
The Co-op Group stores do not stop you from paying for PayPoint with Amex. The cashier has no cause to even look at your credit card any more, so I don't understand where you have got the idea that sometimes they might object. Just put your card in like any other.

I wouldn't try it at a society-run Co-op tho (ones which do not display the modern version of the 60s Co-op logo on their signage) as their tills are different, and in some cases they don't accept Amex at all.
This has been discussed before -
Paypoint only requires the retailer accepts cash. It doesn't have to accept debit/credit cards.

I certainly wouldn't get a card if your only payment channel is card payments at Co-op.
I've personally seen Co-op stores refuse to take cards (including Amex) for bill payments.
I've also seen them 'slip through the net' with what looked appeared less experienced cashiers.
  • Yes, rang them, they will send out a copy, but far from being for only a few by his response he seemed to say most got it.

Just been accepted for an Amex Nectar card with a whopping £6,800 limit. Never thought I would see the day considering I still have a CCJ and 2 defaults on my credit files (all paid off of course). Also out of my collection of 9 credit cards Amex have given me the highest limit out of the lot. Good times!  :)

Didn’t know that Amex approved with marks on your history. Good for you!
