CarFlexi - Car hire broker

My step father and recently attended a funeral in the Republic of Ireland, he rented a car for the duration through CarFlexi.com and purchased total insurance cover including excess protection. Unfortunately the car was damaged and upon return to the hire company at the airport (Budget Rentals) they charged the full excess amount of 2000 Euros which was expected. Since then we have contacted CarFlexi many times to get a refund of the excess through the incurance policy he purchased but without response. I have contacted them through their online form again today but am not hopeful.

Any ideas about what to do next would be gratefully received

Have you checked the excess insurance policy documents? Although a policy sold by Carflexi.com it may be underwritten by another (insurance) firm.  You may need to raise a claim with them.

I am not sure what logic there was in booking on a website based in Switzerland ( and the call centre is in the Philippines!)  it certainly won't be easy taking legal proceedings if they become necessary. Reviews are either appalling, 1.8 out of 5 on one website or great based on another where there have been 5 5 star reviews in the last 24 hours after one 1 star review and surprisingly this appears to happen every single time there is a bad, and presumably honest review...A number of the complaints warn about not taking the full insurance, I hope there is actually a policy, but I have my doubts!  Good luck

    Thanks for replying!

My 73yo step dad wouldn't have the insight to look at where the company was based, he took it on good faith that he was getting a fully insured package on a last minute booking (family breavement in Ireland) I doubt he would have looked for review ratings either!

CarFlexi have actually been in touch with him this morning so fingers crossed we'll get the result he's after.

Very pleased to hear that there has been contact. As you may discover, all that can be found on the internet may not be paved with gold, good luck.
