Jorjiab29 said:Just looking for advice,
2 of us live in a 2 bedroom semi detached house and we both work daytimes so no one is home during the day. House is approx. 30 years old, we have a smart meter and pay by direct debit (we are on economy 7 tariff)
I have been wondering about the electricity cost for a while now and have found they say we are using over 10,000KWH a year in electricity- paying between £195/ £295 a month dependant how often they change our direct debit charge.
We are out all day, have 2 storage heaters which we use sparingly, and an electric shower , oven and hob. Nothing in all this jumps out as high usage, we don't even put the immersion on in fear of the cost!!
I am sure something is wrong, but Eon don't seem to want to help. The meter is old but I figured the smart meter would show our actual usage and therefore any faults would be picked up?
What do I do to get this checked and resolved? it is costing us so much and we just cannot afford to keep paying this every month!!
Many thanks in advance
Not directly translatable, as electric heating is 100% efficient, whilst gas heating is not.
But that's a total of 14900kWh of energy, and you are only using 10,000kWh, so why do you consider it wrong?
If you want to have the meter checked, your supplier should be able to arrange this for you (usually by installing a check meter alongside temporarily).
A charge may be made, but will be refundable if the test proves your meter is faulty.
Your supplier will be able to advise you the charge

When you use your storage heaters do they only come on overnight? If so then I would say your meter readings are transposed. As you've got a smart meter then it will be easy for your support to check this. You mentioned using your shower in the evening but this will still be during the day (higher) rate.1

It is being suggested that you are being charged based on the meter readings being reversed. Take readings of both rates for a couple of days at 8am and 8pm, and then you will know which meter reading is for night and which one is for day. If this does not match way you are being billed, you will need to get your supplier to rebill you way back from whenever you started with them.
