10k KWH

Just looking for advice,
2 of us live in a 2 bedroom semi detached house and we both work daytimes so no one is home during the day. House is approx. 30 years old, we have a smart meter and pay by direct debit (we are on economy 7 tariff)
I have been wondering about the electricity cost for a while now and have found they say we are using over 10,000KWH a year in electricity- paying between £195/ £295 a month dependant how often they change our direct debit charge.

We are out all day, have 2 storage heaters which we use sparingly, and an electric shower , oven and hob. Nothing in all this jumps out as high usage, we don't even put the immersion on in fear of the cost!!

I am sure something is wrong, but Eon don't seem to want to help. The meter is old but I figured the smart meter would show our actual usage and therefore any faults would be picked up?

What do I do to get this checked and resolved? it is costing us so much and we just cannot afford to keep paying this every month!!

Many thanks in advance

Please post your day and night consumption. 10K combined sounds reasonable. I live alone in a 4 bed detached bungalow with 8 storage heaters (6 in use at the depths of winter) and my combined annual consumption is up to approx 20K and that's without using the electric shower at day rates

    day kWh is 7,581
    night kWh is 2,898

previously in other properties our electricity consumption has been approx. £90 a month
We use 1 storage heater currently if we really need to, and our daily usage is sitting at about £3 ish currently on our smart meter.

Three bed bungalow, 4 storage heaters (3 Dimplex Duoheat and 1 Quantum). Use approx 15000 KwH of which roughly 10000 is at night rate.

Appreciate it's not a direct comparison but hope it's useful information.

If you've got storage heaters then those readings look the wrong way round. I live in a 1 bed end terrace with 2 storage heaters and use about 8k kWh a year but about 80% of that is on the night rate. I've typically paid £80-90 a month.

I also have an immersion heater that's on for about 3 hours a day.

Using monetary amounts to compare consumption isn't all that helpful unfortunately and comparing between properties is even more fraught with pitfalls.
The concern with your consumption is that the majority is in the day where we would expect to see the heating working mostly at night.
I would start by checking your meter to see if it is controlled by a mechanical clock (which tents to drift or work intermittently) or if it is a teleswitch.

Ignore, just noticed the smart meter comment.

Do you use any other heating in the day or evening?

Electric showers are a double-edged sword with Economy7 -- use them in the off-peak hours and they are economical.  But using them on the peak rate makes them very expensive and you would be better off running the immersion overnight and have that supply a mixer shower.

No nothing in terms of heating- we also only use the shower of an evening as a general rule !

Are you using the little display (IHD) that would have come with your smart meter?
If so take a look at what it thinks you are using per day/week/month/year?

Can you take a photo of your meter and electrics board and post it on here?  It would help posters understand the situation
