Purchased a hair product at Grand Designs last week £200, went to use it at weekend and it is not working. I went online to the makers of item and contacted them.

They replied that to get a refund I would have to contact an email or WhatsApp they gave me. I have contacted both and no response A
ny suggestions what I should do now.
Who was selling them at Grand Designs? That's who need to be chased. Was it the manufacturer themselves?

I'd keep sending emails and WhatsApp messages (repetitive duplicates will do) to hopefully annoy those sellers of expensive faulty goods (because - how dare they ignore ME?!! *ahem*) - while at the same time applying for a chargeback. (And I do agree with theonlywayisup, credit card is better).

Don't panic, you've paid on a card, albeit a debit card (credit next time) and you've contacted the retailer.  Go to your card merchant and give them all the info showing the purchase, the lack of response and the evidence they don't work.  You will have to be patient.

In the meantime, read up https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/visa-mastercard-chargeback/ites
That link doesn't work. Try this one:

Brewthebear, before claiming a chargeback for faulty goods you must return the item to the seller and include proof of this with your chargeback claim.
  • "£200? That's peanuts! Dyson make hair straighteners that sell for a mere £399"
My Granddaughter has that product! Possibly manufactured for about £10 in China?
I'm just glad I don't have much hair to play with.
  • I’m not sure of coincidence but have been contacted by them since putting on here (hmm)

They have asked to return item and give them my bank details for refund I have asked who’s going to pay signed for parcel ?
Should I be wary about giving bank detail I notice address back is a self storage unit ??

Why would you be wary about giving your bank account number and sort code? They can't do much with them other than send you money. Your debit card details would be more useful, and they've already got those...
  • Ok thanks
  • Only reason I am wary is address is a storage unit ?

Can you explain what your concern is? Don't you have another address for them? If it's a limited company they'll have a registered office (presumably not in a storage unit). But it's plausible that they store their stock in the storage unit, so that's where they want the returns to go.

I ran a business with a rather large turnover from a storage facility - they had offices on site too.
