I understand and agree with Eskbanker's point that the customers were not entitled to the refunds, but by accepting their money a second time, Ryanair have laid a trap for such customers, and as such are acting in bad faith. They deserve all the bad publicity that will arise from this.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Yeah, I think that's where Ryanair may fall down on this.  Allowing people to enter into a new contract and taking their money, and then trying to reclaim money for a previous contract isn't good form.  If anyone took this to court I do wonder how a judge would view that behaviour.

Yes that is mostly thanks to the OPs who were good enough to share their stories only in some cases to be given short shrift by some unfriendly incumbents who have little better to do. Its a real shame and I think we need a clear out to encourage the stories to keep coming.

Not just accepting it, but then waiting until just before boarding to demand it.

There's no traps. I'm amazed that people thought they they could simply pick Ryanairs pockets. With no comeback. They are going to recover the monies by legal means in any event. If one wants to play games then you have to accept the consequences of your actions. Would have looked worse if the airline had simply banned these customers.

I agree.  I read a lot of posts from people happy to initiate chargebacks for flights they could have taken but chose not to, and vowing never to fly with Ryanair again.  They wouldn't be 'trapped' if they booked elsewhere, but the lure of cheap flights keeps sucking them in...

Indeed, and it seems irresponsible of MSE to resort to emotive tabloidy language when inaccurately asserting that "Ryanair bans passengers...", given that Ryanair are simply insisting that the passengers settle their outstanding bills before being allowed to travel.

It's not until the very last sentence of the article that MSE finally concedes:
The airline's T&Cs state: "We may refuse to carry you or your baggage on any flights operated by an airline of the Ryanair Group, if... you owe us any money in respect of a previous flight owing to payment having been dishonoured, denied or recharged against us."

As above, I'm not defending Ryanair's tactics here, but equally the tone and style of this piece leaves a lot to be desired....
I've no personal love of Ryanair due to a personal experience in 2000. I'll use if needs must. Otherwise have always looked elsewhere and made alternative arrangements.
