Asda or Three for minimum top up?

I am looking at the cheapest SIM to keep active over a long period of time with no minimum top up required. I believe with Asda I can top up once and then as long as I use the SIM card within about 4 months it stays active and I don't need to top up. However I am having trouble getting the same info on the Three network. I think I can top up online initially for £5. But after that Is it a similar price structure, or will I need to top up more often than with Asda mobile?

    Three credit has no expiry.
    From their T&Cs:
You must use your SIM to make a chargeable event (such as a phone call, sending a text or getting online) at least once every 6 months to avoid it being disconnected for non-use.

Asda mobile a bit more generous with their 'sim expiry' terms:

I had a 3 data reward sim disconnected for over a year and still works.

The good thing is the minimum top up is Zero if you just need a bit of data(200MB/m) or £2 if you want chargeable

Even cheaper is RWG as that comes with data and calls/text for £0.

OK. Does the Data reward SIM also have a phone number? I threw one away and was under the impression it had stopped working after 8 months or so.

I'm going to try RWG. I can't find any info on how often you need to make a call to keep the sim active in their FAQs, but clearly from the above it doesn't look like I am good at going through the fine detail (T&Cs).
  • The 3 Data Reward SIM does have a phone number. Not sure about usage requirements for RWG sim.

I have 1 of each of the above in a dual-sim backup phone. I diarise getting the phone out every three months, charging it up and sending a text using each sim just to make sure all is well with the phone and the phone services.

With the data reward and RWG I think just using a bit of data is enough to keep them live

The data reward is pretty much a regular sim with 200MB free data,  unless something change recently  still on the old 321 rates last time I used one to do an SMS.

Since both can be run with £0 credit no risk of going over if you let it leak data if left on.
  • Iv got the three data reward sim,and rwg in my samsung, and using the free data on both, is classed as use,and the data reward sim is still 321 rates, its my main number

321 rate has long gone. It's now 10102, but that doesn't have the same ring to it!
