The current T&C's state that gift cards are only valid for 24 months.  Do you have any evidence that this wasn't the case in 2016?
Yup, it would be stated on the vouchers.
Furthermore, customer services have not replied with any legal backing whatsoever, which further proves that they don't have any. They are just refusing and hoping that I will back down.
Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence.

I'd be very surprised if any gift card had indefinite validity.  It's an accounting nightmare to have that much in redeemed credit potentially sitting around.

I'm not sure why they would need to provide you with any legalese here.  They have your money and you have a few useless pieces of paper.  They don't really need to do anything at this point but keep batting you away.

I think I have more of a leg to stand on than they do. Yes they do have my money,  which they took in return for paper which they initially said that I can spend them whenever I wanted - now they are essentially saying 'sorry, we've changed our mind, we're keeping your money'.
Here are more surprises for you, list of retailers with gift card/vouchers with no expiry date:
    John Lewis's paper gift vouchers
    Apple
    Selfridges
Ikea. (I recently used a card that was 8 years old)

And in Canada, the government passed a consumer rights law that most retailers gift cards cannot have an expiry date.
It doesn't seem to be such a problem for them? This is essentially theft, and I refuse to back down.

I didn't say you don't have a leg to stand on,  but all you're doing right now is being a bit annoying and they're obviously OK with that.  Either you'll go away or you won't, but if you don't you'd probably not go away if they quoted T&C's that gave an expiry date either.

It doesn't really matter what Canada did, but bearing in mind this is a country that made it a criminal offence to refer to people by anything other than their chosen pronouns, it's not really surprising that they passed an ill thought out consumer rights law either.

    Sorry… I’m now being annoying? 😂
I’ve come on here to ask if anyone has any experience or advice, you have given an unhelpful opinion, which I am ok with.
But now you are now being a bit rude and unhelpful, I’m not too sure why because I’ve not done anything wrong.

Also - I have had gift cards expire in the past. As I’m sure have many others. But I’ve accepted that, because I was informed that there was an expiry date and I should have remembered to use it.
In this case there wasn’t. So I’m not sure why you are making these assumptions, it’s really uncalled for. Please don’t reply unless you have any helpful comments relating to this issue, thanks.

The fact that I'm not telling you what you want to hear doesn't make my comments unhelpful.

Realistically, you're going to need proof that they breached the contract to go any further.  Currently you have nothing.

And unless you're willing to sue them you'd be better off dropping it entirely.

    Paper Gift Vouchers

The White Company will no longer accept paper gift vouchers as a payment method.
We stopped selling paper vouchers in August 2017 and replaced these with gift cards, which are available to purchase online or in store.

The problems highlighted here regarding gift vouchers/cards are just one of the reasons I will no longer buy them.  I discovered a number of WH Smith cards which had been put in a drawer and forgotten about.  There was no expiry date on the cards but WH Smith simply stated that they no longer accepted them.  To me that is little short of theft/fraud as they took money for goods and didn't supply.  When I argued they said much as has been said in this thread - I didn't buy them so I had no rights in the matter.  As I had no idea who had given them to me I had no option but to give up.  No point fighting lost causes.
I wouldn't buy gift vouchers from anywhere now, with the possible exception of Amazon, because so many companies are going out of business.

Are you saying it's up to the OP to prove the absence of an expiry date, when they apparently already have a copy of the terms and conditions which don't mention an expiry date?

Never understand if you get a gift voucher it is not used ASAP.

If they have a 2 year limit on plastic ones, it would seem fair to say they had the same on paper ones.

Also on the point of taking the funds. These vouchers usually have a nominal value of less than 1p.
