kev2009 said:Hi all,
Could anyone advise how I can find out the MAC address of the Nest heat link? Looking on my router, I can see all the devices connected to show what IP, mac address they are etc but I can only see my Nest Thermostat and the Nest Protect smoke alarm. The heat link isn't showing up at all. It is all working ok, I just wanted to see it on my list and name it accordingly so I know what it is as makes it easier to locate and investigate if issues.
Looking on the nest app, i can see the technical info for the thermostat which gives me the mac, IP for the thermostat but for the heat link no IP or mac address is listed. Any ideas?
Thanks
KevSo you won’t find a MAC address for it.0 -

If moving from an old thermostat to a Nest, the hardest part i found is getting your head around the "true radiant" settingsBefore with a manual thermostat it ended up being used more as an off/on switch, get up in the morning turn it on as its cold and then turn it off when it gets too warm, or when leaving the house for work if remembered to do so get home and either wonder why its like a sauna ( as its left turned on high all day with no one in) or stone cold so up and on it goesWhen i first set up my nest i set a basic program - heating to 19 at 7am weekdays and back down to 12 overnight with the home/away assist dealing with situations where no one is on , the auto schedule dealt with the rest. there is a little bit of a learning curve for both the user and the device alike1

Yes, I'm getting used to it, I'm leaving it along for couple of weeks, I've turned off auto schedule and I've setup a manual schedule, with using eco in situations where it drops too cold so it turns on heating if no one is home etc. I've got set times throughout the day where I set heating at 21 then, lower it down to 15 later to effectively turn it off and then put back to 21 later in day again and then back 15 etc. Eco is set to 16 (lowest option from what I recall), so far eco hasn't kicked in yet as temp not got low enough.
Still tempted to tweak the settings a bit but trying not to play with it too much.

Hi all,
So just getting back to this now....
I'm not using the eco home/away, I've turned that off but I thought by setting a eco temp to 12 and enabling eco mode, it would stay in eco mode and not run the normal schedule (Which it is not running the normal schedule so all ok) but it isn't turning the heating on when the temp drops below the set eco temp i.e. 12 in this case.
Any ideas or does it need to drop to 11 before it will come on?
I've noticed it has come on at different times whilst in eco mode BUT it doesn't tell me what the temp was, sometimes it come son for say 30mins in early hours of the morning so maybe it has dropped to my safety temp of 7?
Thanks

I think it needs to be under 12 degrees to come on in Eco mode so if it's reading 12 degrees it won't come on. Not sure whether it kicks in at 11.5 or 11 - I've never watched that closely! What are you trying to achieve with Eco mode? I only use it when we're away to override the schedule. My schedule (and I've turned off the auto schedule like you did) just has the temperature dropping down to a low temperature at night when we go to bed then back up so that it's warm when I get up in the morning.1

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. It sounds like I'm trying to achieve similar to yourself. Basically, when I'm not home, I set it to eco mode and I usually leave the temp set to 10 but as its started to get colder, I've upped it to 12. So i checked it the other day and the temp for both the thermostat and heat link were showing 11.5 but it still said eco and no orange to indicate the heating had actually come on.
Unfortunately the history doesn't update till the following day so I checked the history the next day and at the time i checked, appro 4pm, there is no indication that the heating came one. It came on early hours of the night for approx. 30mins but that's all so I'm now wondering maybe it isn't coming on as I thought i.e. under 12, it only comes on if temp drops really low to safety temp instead?
If I'm home, i have it set to on and it runs the normal schedule but i set to echo when out/away and hence just happened to check and noticed this so wanted to check if its meant to work that way or perhaps I've misunderstood or not got a setting correct somewhere.
I can obviously turn it on manually but defeats the purpose

It sounds like it's probably doing what it should. The history on the Nest is quite disappointing- often inaccurate and lacking detail which is a shame0

ok thanks, i was just expecting it to come on under 12 but seems not so must be lower setting i guess.
Thanks

Agree with Plasticman that the History mode is woefully inadequate for a so called SMART thermostat
Going off piste for a mo ...
Got into a long argument/discussion with Google with regard to my Nest heating out side of the requested schedule
hhttps://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Thermostats/Why-is-Nest-calling-for-heat-when-room-temp-is-much-higher-than/m-p/127883
In the end they 'declared' - "No Thats working correctly" - I continue to dis-agree
How are you setting to Eco mode ?
seems to differ if set manually or by the schedule- You can also manually set your thermostat to Eco Temperatures anytime, even when you’re home. This can be useful if you want to try to save more energy while you’re at home, and you don’t mind it being a bit cooler or warmer than usual.
- When you manually set your Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E to Eco Temperatures, it will stay in that mode and won’t automatically switch back to heating or cooling until you manually switch it to one of those modes
How Eco Temperatures affect your system behavior
When your thermostat is set to Eco, your system may still turn on in some cases:
- removed bit about cooling
- If your home’s temperature gets lower than the "Heat to" temperature you’ve set, your thermostat will turn on heating until your home warms to the Eco Temperature you set.
